Hey! They have this on Sffixed.. great way to celebrate the birthday of your new bike! I'll start it off! Left my bike, Pearl, in SF for when i go down there to visit and finished building up my Pake.. Here is the almost finished product.. He's as finished as he will be for a while!
Atom.
sweet, i like those pakes. Q: did you get that gios CF fork from city bikes?
brae,
What did you end up paying for your frame and did you buy it in town?
Yeah I got it at city bikes.. I guess it'd been there a while.. it's a good little fork and it has blue on it.. it was cracked at the top but that got cut off so it's in great condition!
I got the frame for $170 off ebay. so i guess about $100 off... I'm from DC and you see them Everywhere over there but i've only seen a few riding around here.
what kind of crancks are those? i really like the blue
Your can get the frame here in town at Universal Cycles for $180 new w/o fork
They are Sugino RD Zen Messenger Cranks w/ mks rx-1 pedals. Sooo smooth!
there sick
hey, brae!
hey you! it's your favorite broken-footed bike lover! i'm glad to see you joined up!
-daniel
thanks dude!
not really a new bike but new stuff. http://velospace.org/node/9417

uh that brake
looks good.. why do you run that brake like that? lack of breaking surface on the front rim??
that is quite possibly the goofiest place to put a brake. I like it. I'm thinking about putting a big lever on my top tube 'cause I like a security blanket, but i like clean handlebars too. oh i realize why you cant run a brake on the front, you're running a 650 aren't you? that or the pista has super unnecessary tire clearance.
well there's now way in an emergency a brake on the under side of your saddle or on your top tube will help at all. the only explanation i can think of is some sort of protest against brake laws, or, taking both the back wheel and the age of the owner into account, that this is just a joke bike.
please just put your levers on your bars where they are actually useful.
a couple of things. once i get a 1 inch threadless gyro ill run the brake where it should with the lever on the handlebars. i like barspins and yes that is a 650c front. also my father locked up my bike beacuse it wasnt "legal". hence i put a brake on it.
that is the craziest brake position i have EVER seen.
does it work well? meaning, have you tested it at different speeds? man, i bet the meanies over at bikeforums would have a go at that picture.
i have similar lever problems, too, as i run rb-021's. but i'm just going to bore a poverty two-finger out and stick it on there anyhow.
I think bikeforums would just implode if you posted this there.
imagining that, i just busted out a laugh that annoyed the entire population of the boyd's i'm sitting in.
it was posted within like 5 minutes of being here

it works. its weird cause ive never had a brake before but yeah it works
it's pretty creative of a placement. i'll give it that. i'd not ever have thought of that.
someone go defend me. i checked out bike forums, its harsh. whatever, its the internet.
weltall82, are the those bars your talking about the nitto bullhorns that have the drop before the forward curve?, have you considered a bar end lever? My GF used to rock some profile designs like those 021's and she had a bar end lever, and a cane creek crosstop right next to the stem clamp. Since it's 26mm right there we used a 31.8 and shimmed it with a plastic headlight handlebar clamp with the tabs cut off. Worked like a champ and looked good too. I currently use that lever on my Cinelli la84's since the clamp area is 26mm. I don't understand why they only make those levers in 25.4 and 31.8 and not 26.
also set my friends brake lever up using an older shimano 600 friction type thumb shifter. Just loosed the friction adjust all the way and used the jagwire brake cable that comes with a derailluer type end on it. Works good, you just gotta have calipers with really short pull and a really strong thumb! ha ha:)
Also, leave the kid alone, I think it's cool to see him trying different stuff. At least he has an imagination, and putting his personality into his bike, and not blindly following what the "internet bike experts" have to say.
This whole thing reminds me of how kids used to bitch over every little thing back in the old BMX days, "skyways suck, arayas are where it's at" or "yo, that alloy crank is gonna bust, you shoulda got a redline 3 peice" etc...
If we all had
Oh yeah brea, you bike looks nice, blue+black or red+black are my fave combo's on a bike.. That fork was a screaming deal, with that nice headset too huh? I rock a 58cm so it was too short, dam!
are you gonna leave the pake sticker on? my friend said his came off really clean with a hairdryer and some goo gone (citrus based, just don't leave it on too long, like 2 mins max)
Word to the wise.
If you enjoy riding bikes, stay away from bike forums. Just a bunch of dudes who know better than everyone...about everything.
Physics works the same whether or not your bike is up to their standards.
I like riding my shitty beater conversion. That sucks that it's not tasteful, but I don't think that much changes the way my bike rides.
thanks max. i dont even care that much. it lasted for half a page? now its about what bike they had as a 15 yr old. whatevs
I once posted a road bike I found at a thrift store in Missouri on BF to identify.
I got three pages of why it was a "shitty japanese" knock-off with idiotic components not worth $5, before someone actaully IDed it.
thats why i enjoy velospace even if it isnt a forum.
i love bikeforums
yeah for now i'm going to keep it on.. i'm order new ones that are the name of him, Atom. So until those come the Pake is staying on.
white folks:
i've thought of bar end levers, but i went out and bought a cheapo pair of poverty levers some time ago. i'm going to bore one out to get it up on the slanted drop area on the rb-21s, and yes, the bars drop, then thrust.
i do wish the poverty was a hinge clamp, though...
thanks for the suggestions, though. i pretty much had come to similar conclusions in my research.
and, i'm not coming down on young jeezy's innovation. not at all. i was just curious.
sorry weltall82, I realize it might seem i was directing that at you since I had yer name in the 1st paragraph, but alas thats not what I meant to do.
It makes his bike "Legal"
Resureccting.
Not a new bike, but I made some changes prompted by the small accident.
She's a beauty.
FUCKFACE------

New bike finished today, bought the frame yesterday, aluminum Dolan track champion...

pretty damn psyched.
Inaugural 50-mile ride on my new Lemond Fillmore today. The saddle is the prototype Brooks Imperial Narrow.

I think you saw me ogling your bike outside of stumptown belmont today. I was wearing a yellow shirt. It looks very nice.

I don't think I actually saw anyone ooglin it. I was at Beautiful Pizza most of the time meeting with a collaborator. Thanks for the compliment though.

get that at veloce?
Yessir, most everything but the wheels and some other bits. Had to spray paint the 92 trillion white logos...left the headtube one though.
Yeah those Dolan stickers are all over, and huge! I was eyeing those the other day when I went in to pick up some special order stuff. How do you like it so far?
so some of you have seen it and I've put off posting pics, but here's my new ride that dean built up for me at bike central.
these are random pics from the track on saturday.
I also have a pink deep v radial laced for it too that is soooo smooooothh.

Gosh, that is awful. In absolutely the most wonderful way.
I like the new bars Max.
freebird:Gosh, that is awful. In absolutely the most wonderful way.
i know haha.
so far I have seen 2 people with a back brake with the lever under their seat. A messenger and the 15 year old...
its the "i don't want a ticket" brake.
the under the seat brake was his weakness in the footdown this saturday haha.
