Hey so I guess I shoulda done this a while ago... I kinda forgot.
A friend of mine has been borrowing one of my bikes for about six months. It got stolen on Sunday night/Monday morning around 1am-2am out of his girlfriend's living room. Really, you can't miss it. Its hot pink, think bridgestone njs pink. burn your fucking eyes neon pink. its a 58cm. 1988 raleigh technium pro. No badges or identifiers other than the signature bonded steel-to-aluminum. mismatched wheels and the rear is a suicide setup. bullhorns. miyata grey/white saddle.
I've done ok without it for the last six months, so really, its not the end of the world if i never see it again. Just, keep yr eyes peeled would ya?
love love love,
zac
Bummer. Finetoothcog?
yeah i've got the serial and some pics on my computer, but its in storage until november sometime. bummer.
dang! right when you were gonna use it as a road bike.
do you know what kind of person stole it and what part of town? cause if it's near downtown I can ask the bike theiving bums that hang outside my work to keep an eye out.
crackhead most likely. It was stolen from the 900 block of NE dekum. right across the street from woodlawn park.
FOUND! The bike was ditched in a garage off N Bryant and N Fenwick. Unfortunately, the thief decided to trade my bike, for the Gary Fisher mountain bike that was in the garage. My bike appears to be in good condition. Only the nylon straps are missing. I don't know the model of the Gary Fisher that was stolen, but it is a 15" hardtail in blue, with disc brakes. mad sloping top tube. keep an eye out. Thanks to Portland for getting me my bike back!
Damn! That's tight. Congrats on getting that shit back.
thanks! I couldn't be more thrilled. Im gonna work on it for a bit, and then flip it so I can build a road bike, since it's too small for me. Still, it's nice to have back, and will make a good loaner bike in the meantime.
YEAH! success story ftw!
So there are 3 different stolen bikes threads so i am picking this one because it's the most recently commented.
My best friend's bike got stolen today. It's a yellow women's schwinn le tour single speed, a distinguishing characteristic is that it says '77 eugene on the seat tube. She is really broke as a joke so if you see it somewhere you know what to do
yo what size bike is she? cuz the PDXFIXED loaner bike is back in action. (has been for a long while but i forgot 2 mention it) it's a 57x58 or so GTB. I rode it to the end of the 24hour velo vulture thing, mebbe you saw it. anywayz she can borrow it.
oh neat i will let her know. ill tell her to get an account.
IS ANYONE KNOW OF ANYONE MISSING A SURLY WHAT LOOKS TO BE A CROSSCHECK WITH CHOPPED BULLHORNS?
BLACK?
IT'S OUTSIDE MY WORK RIGHT NOW.
Why not call the cops on the bums that sell bikes outside your work? I can't remember how well PDX cops deal with that sort of thing but in Eugene if you walk around campus with bolt cutters and they drive by, they'll straight up tackle you.
Yah well with no witness to him actually stealing it and only my knowledge to the fact that he shows up with a new/expensive bike almost on the daily.
unless it was reported stolen which is unlikely considering that it was stolen within a tight time frame maybe that day to within a few minutes of showing up outside.
I think a group of us should grab him and lock his neck to a pole. Then kick him in the kidney. Fucking tweaker thieving piece of shit.
You never know, some people are proactive when they get their bikes stolen and report that shit fast... I think that'd probably be more people than not who ride fixed. It's usually the people on dept. store bikes that don't do anything when their bikes get stolen, or put up a really shitty ad on craigslist that reads something like "BLUE HUFFY, SIZE LARGE STOOLEN OFF MY FRONT PORCH PLEASE HELP"
stoolen
im stoolen while i pdxfixed.
Poopy?
Yezzer.
haha. i wrote stoolen on purpose to illustrate how idiots write stolen ads :]
cmon you know they spel it stollen
STALIN!
HOLY CRAP my wife just stopped a bike from getting stolen!!!
So she just got home from work and on her bus ride home some girl loaded her bike on the bus and sat down and was reading, then some crackhead got off the bus and was going to take the bike and my wife saw him and yelled and told the girl and the bus driver honked and the girl ran out and was like HEY THAT'S MY BIKE and the crackhead scurried off like the scummy cockroaches that they are.
CRAZY! I bet they get loads of bikes that way. I always watch mine whenever I put it on a bus.
That's a somewhat common way to steal bikes it seems. The MAX is worse...
I always stand literally right next to my bike on the MAX.
I keep my hand ON my bike at all times on the MAX.
I keep one hand on my bike and one hand on my wiener...at all times. On the MAX.
yesssssss!

YES! The Wiener Mobile drove by me one time years ago! I yelled "YES! WIENER MOBILE!!!" and they honked at me. It was awesome.
lol I seen one not too long ago on my way to work. it made my day!
someone steal the wiener mobile.. and of course post in this thread about it.
hey do bikes get jacked alot in portland?
as of right now i live in LA County and it seems like every day im hearing about someone getting ripped off.
scarrry.
Shit gets ripped off bikes in sketchy ass areas
Haha I've seen the wiener mobile once in my life=']]
saw it on the freeway. its weird to see a phallus cruising at 60 MPH. anyways, I always am next to my bike or have it locked to the pole above when I'm on the MAX. I feel I can trust crackheads to not have a 15mm wrench.
my friends bike just got stolen last night out on 70th and holgate
its a redline conquest cross bike

best of luck.
one of my buddies bikes just got stolen... he forgot to lock it, but either way, please keep an eye out for the bike.
thanks.
im a dummy and forgot to lock my bike and someone straight jacked it.
12th and taylor near basement bar.
its a blue raleigh with a bit of gold trim here and there because i am mexican.
there is an obama sticker, an andre the giant parody sticker with carina johnson on it instead of andre, and an aztec warrior sticker. again, because im mexican.
im sure whoever snaked it left it after a few blocks because its a crappy bike but i love it and want it back.
i saw the wiener mobile like three times in a week once, like it was on a portland tour, like four years ago.. it was pretty awesome.. that was m y lucky week, my luck has yet to return.
ReverendJackson:its weird to see a phallus cruising at 60 MPH.
thats what she said
my best friend's bike was stolen on alberta last friday. if anyone has seen it or anything, please let me know. here's the craigslist posting and a better picture:

that sucks. i really liked that bike.
A sketchy guy downtown told me and Doug that there's a guy with a "Kryptonite master key" (as if that exists, but who knows) stealing bikes around town and to watch out.
Also, I've been hearing a lot of cases lately of people getting their seatposts/saddles jacked.. be careful dudes. If all else fails, after you saddle height is dialed, super glue a baller bearing in the head of the allen bolt and acetone that fucker out when you need to adjust it. Same thing works for stem, bars, etc though it's kindj of a PITA.
that's why i enjoy my krypto combo lock sometimes!
one of the mechanics at my old shop (taylor) can make it through every combo lock ive ever given him... including the kryptonites... he claims all he needs is a minute per number... since i saw him do it, i dont trust combos...
damn
There goes your trispoke
