Get a graduate degree and teach, then get grants and to research. That's all you can do with that sort of degree, at least that's exactly what my dad did, and he has the job of his absolute dreams.
And as for jobs, craigslist 4 times a day, drop off apps in person when you can, and call back at least once every single day until you talk to a person that tells you yes or no. You have to be fucking pushy around here.

I had an interview today at UPS.
    I expected a bit more.
    Damn my small town expectations.
    Second interview Thursday morning.
Not sure I want to take the job.
Anybody know anyone who has or does work at UPS?

UPS pays 8.50 an hour with a dollar raise after 90 days.
Raises are .50 every year after that.
Benefits kick in after 12 mos., 18 mos. for family and dependents
Tuition Reimbursement up to $1500 per year starting immediately

    I've had better jobs.

It only really gets good after 1.5 years with the company.

No opportunity for advancement in the first two years, unless I become a manager.
All promotion is done on a seniority basis.

    actually, these are non-driving positions.
The driver positions are much more illustrious and hard to get.
You have to be a package handler for 3 years or more before you can even ask to drive...

UPS is hiring for all package handling shifts.
Day Shift: 11 am to 4 pm (sometimes as early as 9:45, and sometimes as late as 5:00) Sunday through Thursday
Swing Shift: 7ish to Midnightish, I think Mon - Fri
Preload Shift: 3 am to 9 am Mon - Fri
All shifts are normally 4 hours, but fluctuate.
These are the ones I remember, but there is one more I forgot.
    It's approximately 15 to 20 hours a week.
    Fulltime benefits after 12 mos.
Tuition Reimbursement up to $1500 a year effective immediately.

Probably common knowledge, and therefore a stupid question, but how do you know so much about which strip clubs are hiring?

silverado has never been in old town .. though it did move, it's still in sw..

p.s. strip clubs are always hiring.

p.p.s. there's only two that hire men, the only ones i listed.

so, I'm being bullied out of my shifts at work. Its a long story that I'd happily explain to anyone that actually cares to listen, but its too long for me to want to write about here. Anyhow, Im only working two nights a week, and that is not enough to make ends meet. I've got experience in retail, kitchen, serving, beer pouring, as well as some graphic design, office/clerical, shipping, customer service experience. Ideally I'd like to be waiting tables, bar backing, or doing some sort of design related work. if you know somewhere that needs somebody who will totally kill it, all the time, then, please let me know.

If you can stand being the person you always make fun of, the security company I work for is always hiring. NEVER a shortage of hours. From the 16th thorugh the end of the month, I'll have worked 148 hours. Not a typo, I'm pretty much working a double every day. And we still have a LOT of unfilled shifts. Mostly at Pioneer Square (yea, we are the jackoffs that tell you you cant ride though.)

its a bullshit job, but if you can get though it until you find something better, it aint that bad.

Any idea's? Local retail, or businesses hiring? Any job resources aside of Craigslist?

If your recommendation can find me a job, I'll buy you a beer.
Thanks a lot for the info guys.

If anyone has experience on boats, Shaver Transportation may be hiring. Tugboat stuff...fugin dirty as hell, and the hours are completely inconsistent, and oh yeah.....most of the workers there only think that bikes are useful as hood ornaments! Good pay though...over 20/hr and union!!!!!

I just moved to Portland and I have shop experience for a few years now. I'm looking for a job currently here in Portland. Any ideas? I have been in a few shops already not seeking employment, just looking in really. I have noticed some bigger stores that probably have some turn-over. I don't care what shop it is that I work at, as long as I'm wrenching.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
