Hopped on my girlfriends geared road bike to get used to it for the upcoming De Ronde ride. It's an old 80's lugged Miyatta that she got on Craigslist for $200 a few years back. I love the bike. Luckily it's a little short in the top tube for me otherwise I would have to steal it from her. I've been thinking about buying a road bike when I get some more money and might have to start hunting for an older steel bike.

What kind of geared road bike do you have? How often do you ride it?

  1.

i got an older lemond alpe d huez with a mix of campy stuff, record hubs n BB, veloce brakes, centaur crank, daytona rear derailleur, mirage front. It was/is my race ride.

My friends 05 vanilla is the nicest bike I have ridden in recent memory, If i were rich and sacha didn't have a 5 year wait...

  2.

i have a cannondale r1000. it's sweet. but i don't "need" it, so it's getting sold. it's fun to ride, but not enough that it ever became or will become my main bike.

My favorite. Look out for me on the De Ronde ride. Not riding my Zipp tubulars on the ride though.

I have a centurion dave scott iron man. It still rides like new and is as old as I am.

My Pinarello. Usually gets ridden on sunny days, but it's increasingly loosing riding time to the IRO. Amazing bike, though.

I picked up this '01 Land Shark frame off ebay after I wrecked my Bridgestone. Built up up with a new group set and some used wheels. I love it.

I ride it usually on weekend for longer training rides or for road races, so maybe 1-2 days a week on it. After riding fixed all week bombing down a hill in a high gear on this feel exhilarating…like Im gonna die. You'll see me on this guy on the De Ronde on Saturday, climbing hills and sucking some serious wind. Hah.

MIN, damn those are some nice wheels. Did they break the bank?

Thanks, Yo! are you akaido from BF? I remember you mentioning a Landshark. Were you at Banana Belt? I saw a white LS there.

They broke the bank alright, but nothing that an annual bonus couldn't fix. Molly at Veloshop built them up with CK ISO hubs and Sapim Laser spokes. My bike is a freak bike with a personality disorder.

All - quality, unique bikes posted so far. Good to see good taste alive and well in PDX.

Yeah, Im Akaio on BF (I need to change my user name on there eventually). And I was at the first and third banana belt in the 5's. I thought I saw a red Lemond in the first one, I wondered if it was you.

Ooh, CK hubs. Those are pretty dreamy wheels.
Eventually I wanna build some wheels up with CK hubs and open pros for around town/touring and then some zipp tubulars for racing. But where the money for this will come from I dont know. Maybe if I rob a bank ill buy those after some Rapha knickers. ;) Maybe PDXfixed needs to organize a bank robbery alleycat…

the bank heist alleycat sponsored by rapha..

grimm, how do you like racing on the land shark? a lot of people i've talked to say it's crazy to race on anything that isn't 100% carbon fiber

Speaking of Rapha, I just bought the Rapha softshell jacket. It's the snizznit. Yes, I robbed the WaMu in Pioneer Courthous Square.

Haha. I could imagine a bunch of track bikes outside the bank inside racers nearly eating sh*t with their clipless shoes and finally shoving a stacks of money in their messenger bags.

The Land Shark is great. Well made steel is a fine material and can be pretty light. Ive never ridden CF and im sure its great and all, but my frame material is not whats holding me back in racing, its the amount of training time I can afford to do is.

Yeah, I'm curious how much difference a pound or 2 makes in a cat-5 road race

I've always thought that if you're fast enough that carbon will make a difference for you, somebody else should be paying for it.

    Like your sponsor.

Lemond Tourmalet. Not as fancy as some of the machines here but it gets the job done. Sold my race cross bike in a cash pinch as this wasn't worth enough to get rid of and it's currently my rain commuter with some raceblades. The track bikes don't always cut it for 75+ mile rides down here in the mid-valley.

I'm on a giant cadex with alex open pro rims and carbon tubes, that dean did up that he's letting me borrow. which I'm gonna end up buying from him.

  5.

Looks like there are a lot of Lemond riders here. I've got a fully stock Croix de Fer. Out in the 'burbs where I live there are too many hills for my weak little legs to go fixed all the time, so its my weekend ride.

Geared Kelly Knobby X. I ride it whenever I'm racing 'cross, training for cross, or during the summer when I am going on a long or really hilly road ride.

Titus Moto Lite - full suspension. - I ride it whenever I can get out of town for some real single track. My 29er SS is my race bike and/or forest park bike.

I'd post pictures if I could figure it out.

I'm planning on building up a geared road bike this spring though so that I can keep my Kelly primarily setup for 'cross.
