I've been chopping off Dickies for years but they get worn through pretty quickly and I've been thinking about springing for some of those fancy cycling knickers but can't really justify the price.

    What do you ride in?

  1.

I wear portland cyclewear messenger pants. The padding is basically useless and uncomfortable, so I cut it out. They're pretty good otherwise, I wear cycling shorts under them if I go on longer rides. For the price I would've liked a little better materials, the zippers feel a bit cheap. They've served me well, though. Veloce has them, they also have Chrome knickers which are super pricey but feel really well done.

Heh, by "cheap" I mean: not as expensive as cycling clothes other places.

I have 3 pairs of swrve knickers and love them. There cut pretty slim, I had to go with the sprinter cut when I got the cotton ones. I also have the hoodie which is the best piece of bike clothing I own. It fits great and I love the back pockets, the Schoeller fabric is awesome keeps me prtected from wind and rain but breaths great.

Hypnotic Designs are great! If you can still find them at a local shop, they are the softest material but mine have proved to be very bomb proof. Semi water-resistant and the extra thick seat of the pants makes for real comfort.

Oh.... and I have the Portland Cyclewear ones and i agree that the padding is worthless and the material is so-so. Nice touch with the reflective straps and pocket strips but I must say I was disappointed when I noticed the tag says "Made in China". They perform well but nothing like the Hypnotic Designs I mentioned before.

if your bank robbing skills are down and you have ten bucks and access to a sewing machine, i have several pairs of levi polyester (wranglers? perhaps?) that i just cut and hem. this bitches are great, they wick water/don't stay wet and they... well, they are just like any other cycle pant. Love the synthetics.

    STINE,

Best riding knickers I've used - Hypnotic Designs (the guy who makes them does them by hand here in Portland). This alone justifies the high price. I've had mine for 2 + years, and they still look/function like new. The semi waterproof fabric is a nice touch.

I've also heard good things about chrome.

I've also got a couple pairs of Endura, but they are really more mountain bike oriented. Still look good though.

For non baggies, IBEX makes really, really nice knickers. Perfect for 'cross, as they are wool that stays warm even when wet.
