freal though, people talk shit about toshi's but they've lasted me plenty of time and are still going strong. in the time i've had them i've busted through a toe clip, two pedals, and 2 different pairs of cheaper leather straps (one pair being campy). the nylons don't break but they also don't have the same solid feel that toshis give.

once again this is all moot compared to clipless though...

Christophe straps are just easy to break. Non-laminated leather straps in general are disposable and crap, maybe there's a few exceptions but that's how it goes.

Time ATACs are where it's at for "urban" riding.

philly jeff was telling me the dimension doubles are the same as the MKS fit-alphas. well they look the same. I fuck with my straps constantly, seems like each different pair of shoes require different tension to feel right. but i'm down with the nylon. it just seems fucked up to use a cow to ride a bike. thats jst my opinion tho. so when i find a good vegan material to make the doubleilzer i'll hook yall up.

Since I haven't rocked the Toshi's I'll give it to the many voices that they are good enough.

I'm telling you though, for the $8 I spent on two sets of used thick nylons at City Bikes, my shit ain't slipping anywhere. (Yes "used", if you're familiar with restoring cars at all you may know why I like used parts better, besides the price)

P.S. for the count I've broken 7 leather straps, 3 plastic clips, 4 metal clips, and one pedal I ripped the axle right in half.

    ftw.

My homie just broke a nylon strap yesterday. I have some used toshi doubles that have been rock solid for almost two years (since I got em.) one of them is starting to delam a little bit but they're still chill. I like em, once you get them adjusted to a shoe you don't gotta fuck around tightening or loosening. Although I will say that I work on shoes all damn day long and I don't know how the fuck they get away with charging what they charge for those things. two layers of suede, hardware has been the same forever and a screen print? You can get a full on pair of kicks made out of suede for less, but I guess they got people (including me) buyin' em so...

I had some soma doubles on a different bike, but I broke one of them. I think it's important to look at how the strap goes through the pedal, the somas were on wellgo tracks and the slot on the pedal had a pretty sharp edge that I think would fuck up most anything. If you put whatever material against a knife blade and yank on it all the time it's going to go at some point.

I too have noticed that the sharp casting flash on the strap holes on lower end track pedal seems to shred straps. nicer pedals don't have that of course they have way nicer finsh to them. ie dura aces or royal nuevos etc..anyways, that little sharp ridge in the straps hole, i hit it with my little i.d. ridge reamer pencil thingy and follow up with a small file. seems to do the trick. now the straps only break from getting scratched wrecking or from dragging upside down before I foot in.

Max only breaks straps when he gets angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry...
