I want to build one up, but they are definitely not cheap. I've heard they are amazing bikes, but nothing from anyone I know (even if it's just an e-quaintance) so I can't really confirm any of the pros/cons. My main concern about them is cost, seeing as how I could get an NJS rig for similar pricing. Worth it/not worth it? Discuss! (It should be noted that, should I choose to accept this task, I will be blowing most, if not all my summer-skrilla on it).
i have one. and i would say NOOOOO DONT BUY IT for one reason and one reason only. they are retailing at around 800 now. unbelievable. i bought my yellow one which was one of the last of the shipments that costed 600 and it was worth it. maybe. not to mention half the people in town ride them. i mean the geometry is alright and the tubing is pretty good and its light or whatever for a steal frame but if i had my money back i would buy something a little more interesting. probably look around craigslist and ebay for a while and find a cooler used frame.
First off I dont own one, but heres my take on them after reading about them for a good while…
What type of riding do you do and how big are you? If youre big, particularly rough on your bikes or have a mad sprint the Bare Knuckle may be a good option. The tubing is supposed to be beefy on them (read: heavy but stiff). If you are none of those Id look elsewhere. I could think of a better way to spend 800 bones. You could look into getting a semi-custom Mercian or Bob Jackson or even find a nice used NJS bike for that price range.
I feel that these frames are taxed and sloping top tubes makes baby Jesus weep. I but I do see a fair number of them at Alpenrose, being raced.
do the bareknuckles slope? i know the brassknuckles do
oh my bad, I was thinking of the brassnuckles.
here's a tight barenuckle

Several people on my team are racing these frames and say nothing but good things about them.
here's asterisk's bike, from this board.
nothing wrong with that.

my friends just bought- new pista concept for 650
used panasonic njs for 840
used cannondale track for 840
used pista concept for 550
there are much better things to spend your money on.
I've had my bareknuckle for about 4 months and I love it. I bought it barely used off ebay for a good price. When i was in the market, i saw a few nice used ones go for about $300-$350 for frame/fork. At that price, I can fully recommend it. For $600 (or even $800 now?!) new i wouldn't touch it.
I found the frameset for 650 on bikecult.com. The Brassknuckle makes more than just baby Jesus weep. everytime I see one I crave an oxy acy torch and some extra tubing. still not sure if I can justify the price.
for those that like sloping top tubes and stiff aluminum bikes brassknuckles are great. stop shitting on them. some fast fucking dudes ride them.
but the bareknucle being eight hundy kills that frame. i dont care if mario and luigi make 'em. there are WAYYYY better deals out there. the tubes are butted? how coms that frame is heavy as a gas-pipe schwinn?
peep out some e-bay action. or save the skrills and build one of the alien lugged bikes, or one of dem affinty nyc frames with the TT geometry. so many options. i know just give me the money and i'll build a sick bike for ya.
As a non-owner, I don't know much about the frame, but I'm positive it isn't worth $6-800. For that much I'd go with a semi-custom bob jackson (http://www.bobjacksoncycles.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=307) or a used Cannondale track or even a used NJS frame if thats your thing.
I've heard really good things about the brassknuckle as well. Does anyone in town sell these? I'm always conflicted about sloping top tubes. Hate the look but love the feel.

yes to this idea of the bob jackson. the vigorelli is hot fucking titties. take care of it and it's the last frame you'll need to buy for a good long time.

I know 21st sells them. They usually have a couple in stock.

Forget quality and longevity, you can pick the lug detailing color. Thats worth $670 any day.
Depends:
If you want a steel frame you can pound on the track then it's a great choice. Under big riders (myself included) the rear stays won't flex like cheaper frames (Soma, Pista, etc) during hard sprinting on the track.
If you want a steel frame for banging around on the street, there's probably better deals out there.
I bought mine when they were just under $600 in '05 and few other frames in that price range offered good sprinting characteristics/track geo/tubes better than crappy 4130 steel. Now there are a ton more choices so I'd figure out what your priorities are before throwing down.
The Bob Jackson would be a kick ass alternative but it's more road oriented and I've heard bad stories of frames taking ages to be built and shipped.

how are you liking that GT?
Eh. Too overpriced. At that $ tag you might as well start looking at a Cinelli Vigorelli or something.
i got my brassknuckle from bike central for $255 can't beat that. they only come in a shitty tan color and a gray, that's why i got mine painted. they're not that bad actually and the geometry is good. i HATE the sloping top tube but that's what you get when you're vertically challenged. Nerf rocks a brassknuckle also, and he's sooooo fucking hard on his bikes and it's lasted him. I've beaten my bike up but not as bad as him, and honestly to shell out 800 now for a bare. i wouldn't when you can almost get something handmade for a bit more. or something just as good or better for a bit less
but everyone i know who has a bareknuckle has nothing but good things to say about them.
just wait for gas prices to drop and get one. hahaha
there's a cinelli vigg. frame on ebay for $849 buy it now. I'd rather get that.
bare knuckles are one of the strongest bikes built today. they look fucking amazing too.
The Cinelli Vig is a good looking bike. Probably not a good choice for the street, and for the track its more of a mass start bike than a sprinters frame (per conversation at the guy at the track with one).
Jennx:and honestly to shell out 800 now for a bare. i wouldn't when you can almost get something handmade for a bit more.
just to point out the bare knuckles are actually hand made. maybe you mean custom?
something handmade thats not massmade
i've had my bareknuckle for about 1 1/2 years and i beat the everliving hell out of it. it sprints well and does what you tell it to. granted i got it new for $550, i don't know how i feel about this $800 nonsense.
verdict: do not want. (unless someone wants to hook me up with their old sheeit)

and what other cheaper bikes (like the TT)are made by the a robot?
Yeah. Fleshy robots in Taiwan.
Bareknuckles and Brassknuckles -they have nothing on the Mooseknuckle.
:nyuck nyuck nyuck:

Jennx:something handmade thats not massmade
yeah I hear ya. 1500 for a custom yamaguchi only 800,000 more pennies
MIN:Bareknuckles and Brassknuckles -they have nothing on the Mooseknuckle.
