ah i didn't know you had a leader as well.

i found the c'dale in tarckbike's jackass thread, couple dozen pages after your own bianchi, haha.

    question:

why do some very seriously "track ONLY" bikes i see around this internet device have clips n straps instead of look/spd/eggbeaters/clipless? do people bomb around alpenrose in full spandex tops, then dirty converse inside clips n straps? or is it something njs refuses to come up-to-date with, like carbon fiber frames? or am i just confused?

  3.

    jeezy sold his leader

dudes could switch pedals at the 'drome or they could just be for street use.

A lot of old track racers like clips and straps when used with cleats designed for them because they will not come out unless you put your hand down to release the strap. Clipless pedals are popular now but even in the 90's, when most roadies were using Look pedals, track racers stuck to the what held best because they put out so much power.

here's some good looking old shoes and cleats:

The slot in the cleats fits around the rear platform on clip/strap pedals.

I use these because I can use them on the street or the track and the cleats work with Look bolt pattern shoes.

It looks like Yellow Jersey has some good solutions for those who want to use old style pedals with new shoes:

tons of racers use clips and straps. at alpenrose is no exception. i rock clipless but several people on my team ride clips and straps, as do other racers out there (eg amelia from bike central, among others). typically, like crossett mentioned, people wear cycling shoes that fit into the pedal as well as using straps. but others just wear regular shoes (eg pj rocked vans on saturday). it's all preference.

yo, kevin, look in the window of citybikes on 20th and ankeny. above the phil wood track pedals from the 70's you'll see my puma track shoes from the 70's. i donated them cuz they were one size too big. they have a little slot for the rear lip of the pedal and when you really cinch the strapz down your feet ain't going fuckin nowhere.

oh yeh i dunno how to make it work but hrrs a link 2 my shitpile. if you don't like it, well...chupa my chalupa putoes!

    thats awesome.

    new question:

are all (most) forks the same size? i know there's 1" and 1 1/8" and others, but will a fork off a 50cm bike and a 62cm of the same model be the same?

andy: you need one of these

for those naked bars. haha honestly though, good lookin'.

Ha, thanks! I just got the bars in the mail... took like a week and a half when I paid for 2-3 day shipping!!! I read earlier that you bought a Kilo TT? That's the same frame I just built up, and I absolutely love it.

yea, it's blowing up all over the net. soulja boy selling a million ringtones, bikesdirect putting a billion people on kilo tt's. i wanted to wait for purple, but 1. oh well 2. i'm tired of waiting 3. i have a big pink mess bag, so i don't want to completely turn away all the more straightforward girls. you know, the uncool ones who like their guys close-shaven and clean, without a lot of pink and purple.

they are the same, the 62cm however will have a significantly larger steerer tube, you may have to cut this down.

For the most part. My leg and shoulder got pretty banged up, and I might have broke my thumb or something. My hand is super swollen and sensitive so... yeah, gonna get it checked out after work, or maybe now. The bike at first glance looks good other than a few scratches, loose fork and headset. The dude said his brakes didn't work "good", and that's why he couldn't stop at the stop sign. I wanted to punch his brain.

Get well soon. Did you get this insurance info? Pain and suffering brotha.

I have major road rash myself... it sucks and lasts a long time.

If you haven't already, call the cops. If there is no police report the guy's insurence will just call the whole thing hearsay and in even if everything goes your way you would get only 50% of damages. The driver could even make you pay for any damages to his car.

Loose fork/headset? If the fork blades or steerer is bent the frame is going to be suspect as well. Have a shop check it out and send the bill to the insurence company. That is, if you have a police report.

Thanks man. I leave for Mexico on Saturday, so I better not have a cast. I bet the salt water and intense sun is going to feel great on my road rash. But yeah, I definitely got his info. I just went through the whole hand surgery thing this past year, so I'm definitely not paying a dime for any medical bills if there are any.

Salt water is your best friend for healing scrapes and minor cuts; the tap water is a different story, haha. Have fun in Mexico.

Good lookin' out. Honestly, I had no idea what I was suppose to do... just grabbed the dudes info and split. F, is it too late to file one? I guess I'll find out in a little bit.

Thanks mang. I'm sure a bucket of beers on the beach will do the trick.

I did take something away from this whole situation... I decided it's time to swoop up a helmet.

  12.

first of all, glad you're okay. good call on the helmet...

but also...what'd you end up having to have hand surgery for? i'm pretty sure i fractured my palm in a fall about a month ago...it seems to be slowly getting better and doesn't really affect anything, but it's annoying.

I had to have surgery 'cause my pinkie finger was bent/stuck under my other fingers, and I couldn't move it. They drove a couple pins in to straighten it out, and I was good as new in a little over a month or so.

Hand injuries suck. You really take having two good hands for granted. Your palm will get better with time. Not sure there's much they can do to help other than to suggest a cast or something... but I'm no doctor.
