Bike Central for advice/sick gear, Citybikes for used parts/tools/stopping by for no reason, Meticon because they are straight up honest as can be.

i'm sick of veloshop and their hipster mechs. they can't get their ish straight on my custom zipp build. when you drop 20 bills on a wheelset you expect to be treated like a star customer and i've seen nothing but iffy followthrough. i don't trust anybody with my bikes.

Remember that bike mechanics make a third of what people with actual skills do, and do bong hits on their coffee breaks.

Just like anything else, if you want it done right, do it yourself.

veloshop installed my cranks w/o washers. The bolts just ate into the aluminum and they creaked a lot before i pulled them off and installed them properly. I went back to veloshop to see if I could get some free washers (I had given them all the hardware, where it went I don't know) and maybe a "sorry we fucked up" but instead I was told that they never use washers on crank bolts! Fuckin' idiots.

Yeah but Dean doesn't know everything even if he thinks he does, he once told me to get a miche bb for my dura ace ex cranks. He thought that since sugino 75s are iso and superbe pro are there own taper (but iso can be used in a pinch) that the dura ace would be iso. He lectured me about "destroying history" so i held off to until i found out for sure. I finally went to American in SF (probably the worst customer service ever, worse than dean even) but they have two Dura Ace AX bikes hanging in the shop and a ten pinch group so it was my only hope as far as looking at the right bb taper. We looked at the dura ace bb's of that era were definitely JIS.

He also has some vintage hubs I want but keeps raising the price each time I come in, first it was $200 (not a bad deal but i didn't have the $$ at the time), then $300 and now its $400 and he wont de-lace them from the old rims so its going to be upwards of $550 for the wheels.

  2.

fuck that raising the price shit, thats the kind of shit that i'm talking about

for instance my GF was looking at a pair of used sidis at citybikes and she asked hipster cateye glasses girl for a price and she mumbles some shit about not having the time then goes "$25, is that all or can I get back to work?" uh ok. I then wait for Noel to get done helping some one else and ask him, he goes hmm $6 bucks Ok with you?"

My ex-wife works for the business licencing office, collecting fees, I oft wonder if its worth rekindling the old flame to somehow get evil on shops I hate.

basically it comes down to this: I hate most bike shop owners, they pay the help so poorly that the only folks who'd take the job are bitter didn't quite cut it ex-racers who know everything.

Isorry if you work in a shop, im just kinda on a roll pissing off everyone..

lemme know if your not offended, i'll try and squeeze you in next time

Cyclepath. The owners (Bill & Joshua) are always there, they know their shit and are some of the nicest guys I know.(Employess: Cody & Michael are also super nice & cool also). Plus, If you like bike porn, they have some of the most beautiful bikes I have ever seen on their floor. That being said, I guarantee that they will treat you with respect even if you are coming in to just buy a tube.

Cody is a good guy. Always seems to go out of his way to help me out.

The shop in general is like that. Plus it is near my house and on my way home from work (which also makes it a tad dangerous...)

  8.

yes i find it dangerous as well. so easy to drop a couple hundred on stuff that you didn't necessarily need but looks sick on your bike.

when prices go up from the distributer they go up in the shop. it costs more to replace. sorry i didnt want to unlace wheels, waste spokes, time and money.

as far as local shops: city bikes because they have parts for internal hubs.

Hey Dean, what do you think of all these new kids and their fancy bikes? I mean reallly who needs an aerospoke on the street? or clips and straps? risers on a track bike...barf? gimme some nitto 125AA's and a proper 3 cross tubular anyold day...

an aerospoke has more practicality on the street than the track, unless you are attempting the hour record and want the fly wheel effect. clips are straps have worked for all kinds of bike for a long time. i like to see the kids fall down trying to do bar spins with riser bars and im stocking plenty of 650's. b-125's if you dont need the deeper drop, but the aluminum bars wont beat you up as much on the bumps. as far as wheels, i dont see you would want tubulars for the street, but if we are talking about track, then box section rims 4x tied and soldiered.

the cranks and bottom branket are specific to each other. if you are going to do something do it right. dont just slam things together because they are burning a hole in your "project pocket."

    hey dean

    indeed.

i wish i had nothing better to do than try to prove a point that died 3 years ago. i would kill for that kind of free time. seriously...

anyway - i still have to say i love cyclepath. i went in there today to get my headset tightened, and everyone is SOOOO friendly there and helpful. From the owner to the mechanics. Never been charged for small labor and they have better prices on some random things than most shops. However they don't know a whole lot about track specific bikes, but for being right by my house its great for adjustments, tubes and bike porn.

Also Revolver has sexy mechanics and cheap krogs...which is great if you're like me and lose them in a drunken haze. even though they sent me home with a pake fork instead of the soma fork i ordered...but they of course let me swap it back no problem.
