Rip City.
Best: the '77 Ramsay team before I was born
Great: the Drexler era before I knew what was what
Good: the RASHEED WALLACE** and Damon and Pippen era, continuing the 27 years of playoffs
Unbearable: any time Zach Randolph was on the court
Kinda boring and depressing: Steve Patterson half-assedly getting guys like Outlaw and Webster because they were "nice kids" as a bogus way to get rid of the "Jail Blazers" idea
Awesome: Roy for ROY
Great but could be better: LaMarcus
Holy shit good luck (even after a year off): Oden
Hope they can collectively do a passable job: Outlaw, Webster, Frye, Diogu
Want: a veteran small forward
... anyway.
Gotta love the only local pro team.
Last year was awesome, now throw in Oden, Bayless, Batum, Fernandez, and Diogu... awesome. Now, to trade some pieces for a little experience. Is Cliff Robinson still in the league?
** = favorite basketball player/figure, next to Charles Barkley. In the DET-BOS series, the Pistons had a final possession and the players took the court after a timeout with the arena music still playing, and Sheed was singing and dancing to "Welcome to the Jungle" by GNR like 20 seconds before the game-deciding play. Awesome.
the double alley opps by outlaw in the last quarter of the last home game was fucking sick! next season is going to be amazing.
also, i have two blazers run-in stories. one: when i was 18 i went out to lunch with my mom to tell her i had joined the army. she starts crying at the table, then kevin fucking duckworth comes out of nowhere and goes all Mr. T on me about making my mom cry.
two: channing frye came into this club where i was bouncing. i told him he didnt have to pay and all his friends started laughing at him. he was really cool and gave me his autograph. slamma jamma.
A friend of mine from high school beat Cliff Robinson's ass a few months ago. I was not present, but the story made me laugh.
Good Travis story:
A group of Blazers organization people are working at something like Habitat for Humanity, Travis is the token player appearance to bring in some extra PR. The Blazers people get directions from the volunteer leader and go off to do their tasks, Travis kind of gets off-topic and puts screws and nails where they don't belong, needlessly cuts 2x4's in half, stuff like that. One of the leaders comes over and redirects Travis, he apologizes and starts drilling and hammering happily in the right spots with this gem of a quote:
"Man, this is why I'm here - POWER TOOLS!"
(Not to provide a home to a family in need... no, his purpose is to play with power tools!)
Also: my middle school worked at the annual Christmas tree giveaway drive at the Rose Garden for low-income families. At one point my middle school girlfriend is asked by a photographer to go pose with Rasheed Wallace and one of the Blazer management types... maybe ten days later, she's in a full-page photo in Sports Illustrated, credited as a "local youth in need" who 'Sheed and the Blazers were cheering up with a free Christmas tree.
Good stuff.

dude why are you ripping on oulaw? he's the man. he makes the tough buckets under pressure and is a general baller that we're a lot better off with than without.
seriously does ANYONE remember the song bust a bucket?? because i def remember being drunk an dasking jonah and some other kids but none of them were old enough.......
dude i found the video online
http://www.sevensistersroad.com/download/video/bust_a_bucket_adsl.mov
edit: I forgot to mention why i posted this. it's the blazer's rapping. so the video is better than the mp3 cuz it shows them throwing down in the studio
That video is WAYYY old school. Haha. I totally remember that shit!
So funny.
bust a bucket was a pretty good tune/video. rip city, rap city was my shit though. i cant find a video or any kind of recording of it though. i think z 100 did a run of cassette singles of it back in 1990 or whenever it was.
I have bust a bucket on cassette tape. It has rip city rap city as a B side.
In other news: Sheed is my man. I love Joel Przybilla. Drexler got me hooked.
i still play NBA jam with drexler, robinson and porter.
RAH... SHEED... WALLACE!!! was the man. dude would ruin our team now but i still love him.
i liked jones and outlaw a lot last season. roy too of course. but i'm always hooked on anyone that can drain 3 after 3...
Oh shit! i didnt realise they came out at the same time. i always thought rip city was 90 and then bust a bucket came out in 91.

the demise of the cassette as a format I will always rue...especially the "cassingle" if your of the OCD Trapper-Keeper generation like myself you remember how car cassette decks flipped the play head automatically...cha-chink and your could listen to "hungry like a wolf" over and over and over.....
oh wait sorry ...having a little dianne downs moment there..
