Hey guys, what do you think about selling a bike with tubular wheels? I am nearly done building up a frame( which I am selling) and I was debating between selling it with clincher Deep-Vs or Velocity Escape tubular wheels, both on Formula hubs.
Will it hurt or help resale value? So many newbs are afraid of tubs...
Hm. Im not expert, but here is my 2 cents…
I would say the market for people into tubbies is smaller, but people who like them probably would pay what their worth. But I think deep vs would sell pretty easy, as the kids some to love them. Itd be easier to get what you want with the deeps, but not impossible with the tubulars if you can wait a little longer.
Selling the whole bike only? Not just the wheels? ;)
Would the bike be good to race on at Alpenrose? If so, post a for sale message on the OBRA list.
you should just hook a brotha up and sell me those velocity escapes for a good deal, because they'd be getting used on track :)

are you in the market for a set of tubies then? i may have a set for you...
Really cheap affordable ones that won't break the bank, like the deal MIN got when he bought those Escapes off CL.
I'll let you know how nice they are when/if I get them and maybe we can work something out.
To contribute: I think selling tubies on a complete bike that they make sense on wouldn't hurt the value, but it'd probably just be better to sell the bike with the clinchers and sell the tubular set by itself.
Sorry dudes, I have the sell the whole package otherwise I will have an orphaned frameset, complete with parts. The issue is: which wheelset should I include with it? My wife said I can't keep this bike because it's too similar to the Fillmore. :D
It's that Scattante steel fixed gear frame I got... I have the carbon Lemond fork from the Fillmore on it, Bonty GXP cranks and other stuff transplanted off my Fillmore.

I have to keep one of the two sets for my Fillmore.
Sell it with the clinchers, you seem to like the tubies and from my observations they hurt the resale value. Unless its a very nice frame that could presumably be a track only bike tubies seem to turn people off.
sell the velocity deep vees, people love them, and you know they are just too damn heavy for the discerning cyclist. then sell the tubies to me.
I've got a pretty nice tubular wheelset that I might want to part with. Don't know if I'm willing to spend the money on more expensive tires, and more importantly the bike gods would probably rather see them on the track anyway.
edit: mavic rims, campy hubs, conti tires. get at me if you're interested.
You guys are making this whole trying to be financially responsible thing tough…
Here's the bike in question, I finished it last night. Thanks for the input everyone... it's wearing the Deep-Vs.
It feels like the Pista I had but slightly more comfortable. The BB area is stiff enough for my 175lb mashing build.

That thing is slick man. Ought to sell pretty easy. What you gonna be asking for it?

we'll see where the price ends up.
$700. Just sold!
Somebody got a good deal. That thing is proper.
still no luck selling my tubular wheelset. i have faith, though.
i got a tubular front on the ebay today for a buck + 25 shipping. no need for it, no idea how to operate tubulars, but... oh well!

p.s. its a roval
tubulars aren't really all that hard to change. stretch your tires on a rim before mounting them, it'll be a lot easier. tubular tape also makes it easier but the tape comes off with the tire unlike with glue which is mostly reusable.
I got a flat today. It took me 10 minutes to change it. A bit longer than with clinchers, and that included glueing a pre-glued tire.
is there any problem running a tubular front and clincher rear?
nope
edit: other than if you want to prepare for flats you have to carry two different things
