Anyone going up to short track tonight? I was thinking about doing the beginner race since I've never done it before but I might just do singlespeed. What's a good gearing for short track?
out at pir?
Yep -- Here's the schedule:
6:00pm - Beginner & Junior: racing for 20'
6:30pm - Sport Women & Singlespeed: racing for 30'
7:00pm - Sport Men: racing for 30'
7:30pm - Expert & Pro/Semi-Pro: racing for 30-40'
I'm gonna be there, I saw you at Tabor last week.
SS class sounds fun, I have never ridden ST before, but i'm borrowing a bike and riding the sport class.
I'm riding SS. Whatever you choose (geared or SS), it's like a sunny dry 'cross race. (Fast, Furious and Fun). It's also relatively flat.
I'm not one to change gears much, so I pretty much ride the same ratio day in and out. On my 29er, I ride a 36 x 20 (I think!). Same gear I used at Hornings & Falls City Firecracker (my only other mtn bike races of the year).
Wow that was fun. I did the beginners race and the singlespeed race. Was sporting totally the wrong gearing and my back brake got disconnected during the race but I'll be back next week :)
I wish it wasn't such a pain in the ass to get my mountain bike up to PIR.
Dan -- nice to finally meet you!
James - Riding half the race with a snapped off seat post was definitely a crowd favorite (damn carbon)
man, those last two laps hurt!

Nice to meet you as well. I'll be missing Tabor tomorrow and STXC next week, so until we meet again...
Do you drive up to PIR or ride? I think it is way better to ride out there and avoid the traffic. I leave from Montgomery Park (my office) go over Broadway and up Interstate (total ~8 miles to PIR) in about 30-40 minutes depending on traffic and lights, etc.
Way better than driving.
carbon worries me sometimes.. hehe
Yeah, I'll probably ride next week. I hate riding on the streets on my mountain bike but it will probably be better when I get a smaller cog on it. Someone told me that riding on the street will wear out the knobbies really fast... not sure how much trust there is in that.

Faster than slicks, but not 'fast'. Actually it depends on the tires. Personally, I'd rather wear out my tires (exuse to get new tires! yay!) and get the workout in (as well as save gas $, air quality, etc...)
Great, now Walton's winning short track :) I was hoping he would be one of those roadies who couldn't ride a mountain bike

NO SRSLY GUIZ
did anybody else go? It was a blast, and if my hip wasn't still fucked, I'd actually try racing on something without 16" wheels and a 48x16.
