    "fixed gear" eras with...saddle bags?

Highlights on the laces and a heel logo make it more appropriate for riding than their regular fucking shoes? Shit's dumb.

It would be nice if they put the plate in the sole like they had on their clipless models. The rubber on those things grip great on pedals, but they flex like a wet noodle when you put any power down.

Word on the street is that they're testing a new clipless model.

I just got a new pair of eras and i'm considering filing a little slot on the sole. my last pair developed one from the pedals and it was fucking great

    Dear Zelah,
Fixed gears are now what you would call 'popular'.
When things get 'popular', other things called 'businesses' try to cash in.
The existence of the Vans shoe is merely a reinforcement of fixed gears growing mainstreamization.

They should have made matching top tube pads. Would have been half as useful and been twice as successful.

Anyone who had a BMX bike in the 80s had Vans. I know Bianchi Pistas are the new GT Performer, but I can't find an analogy for how banal this is.

That was then, this is now. Why else would Vans be calling their shoe the fixed gear model and be marketing it with a saddle bag?

I want to agree with you...but it's not like you can really wear those around after you get off your bike. Even with cleat covers, clipless shoes suck to walk around in. Are the cleats going to be easily removable, maybe?

If they do it like the 661 shoes, you'll have to cut the rubber out of the bottom to mount the cleat. The old Vans were SPD compatible 2-bolt.

But what is the advantage of wearing a regular Vans shoe that is set up as a clipless shoe with cleats? Just the way it looks? I would think it would be so you didn't have to change back into your sneakers...but if it is just as difficult to walk around in...

Like a recessed cleat for 2-bolt (AKA Mtn bike style clipless).

Ive been waiting for a brand to make some shoes like this that dont look dumb. (Nike made some, but are not selling them, they were special for the Bejing Olympics I think). Shimano makes some, but they all look like day hiker shoes. You can actually take out a piece of sole in the center and put in a cleat that works with pedals like eggbeaters, Time ATAC, or Shimano SPD.

i think the fratties on campus get offended when they here the "CLOP CLOP CLOP" sound the shoes make when you walk, look back expecting to see an attractive female in high heels, only to discover some sweaty bike dude with his pants rolled up.

Don't those cover the cleat portion that clips into the pedal, the brass piece? The noise is coming from the "soccer" cleats on the soles that are designed to cut through dirt since Doms are mtb shoes...

Oh, don't know what to tell you there, then. Yes, they just cover the metal piece, which is all that makes noise on my shoes.

Man I love me some Doms outside of the fact that they catch me looks from non-cyclists. They're RUGGED as hell, I've crashed on gravelly, slippery pavement enough times that they should be shredded, but the fake leather just shows surface marks. Sidi offers lifetime repair I hear, too, just in case.
