I know it's a ways away, but anybody else planning on doing this? I think Zac and I are doing it. I'll probably do some volunteer work on Saturday so I can do it for free.
I will be here for this! FUXXXXXX YEAH!
Ohhh... I'll have my secret-weapon finished by then... muuuhhuuuuhahaha
Who's down for the course marking with me on Saturday?
bschultz:Who's down for the course marking with me on Saturday?
That's what I'm doing, baby! Good fun.
Which one are you guys thinking?
I'd like to blast the actual century, but I'd do it all wrong in jeans, a t shirt, and vans.
Thinking the 50....
But I'm very interested...
I'm definitely doing the whole 100.
krystenr:I'm definitely doing the whole 100.
You forgot, "*slams fist on table*"
Are you doing it fixed!?
I hope my foot will be in good enough shape...
im thinking the 50 but i have never ridden that far before =/
I just may do this. They'll probably make me attach a brake to my bike to ride it...
Haven't made it past 60 miles yet..
This sounds really fun, I'm thinking the 100 on my Caad 9 or 50 on my track. I did the Cycle Oregon weekend ride 74 miles with absolutely zero prior training and it damn near killed me, I couldn't walk for two days but I finished :)
This also sounds moderately flat.
Yeah Ill do the whole 100 fixed. Id rather do it on a conversion than a track bike though.
just signed up as a course mechanic for the whole hundo.

Yes, I'm doing the whole 100 fixed, with Zac. I, too, will be riding a conversion.
You guys have plenty of time to train - this isn't until late August! If anyone is interested in doing some longer rides (40-60, eventually 80 miles) with me in prepartion, just let me know.
Well, shit, if everyone else is doing the hundo, then I might just have to get in on that action.
Training sessions... I'm in.

Awesome! Whisper me for my number and we can set some stuff up.
Maybe this should go under confessions, but (providing I can ride) I'll be on a roadie for the 100. Big ups to the fixie folks!

No need for that to be a confession, that's rad dude. Even if you weren't recovering I'd give you props. 100 miles is a 100 miles. Still impressive even if you gear up (or down? haha).
I signed up as a mechanic. Free is the best price.
who's doing this on Sunday? Zac? I'll be at PSu at the lovely time of 6:45 am. I'm riding the 100 mile course as a mechanic. If you see me, say hi. I'll be on a Specialized S-Works Tricross (black, white and red) and sporting the blue and green River City kit.
theres still a spot open to set up and help with registration :0!
cool i signed up to volunteer
i'm wondering if i'll be able to do the century, leaving at like 1030, or if the idea is to set up then do 50?
we'll see!

Jesus a S-Works Tricross? Employee discount?
yeah ill be there.
fun time:
saturday was alleycat, house show, and watching olympic basketball final til almost 2am
i got up at 4:15 to get there a little past five
"worked" as a volunteer til about 8:15 (put up some signs, did a little reg. stuff, ate free granola and blueberries)
tarcked it up and rolled out of the park blocks
leg-braked a little going down madison towards hawthorne bridge
shoved the cog and lockring almost off, lost the chain, walked bike back to start area
talked to bike gallery worked, he tightened some stuff up, i clip in and slip forward again
sat around
talked to two cute volunteer girls who were about to ride off for half-century
got a free castelli jersey from one of the girls (it was covered in coffee and she was gonna throw it away, it's also pink and argyle)
asked bike gallery fellow if he happened to have a 3/32 freewheel in his work van
he offers his own rear fixed wheel off a conversion of his own which he had in the back (had brought it in the van so he could practice backwards circles if he ever had some free time during the century)
i ride home on a basic sunrims wheel which i'll drop off at woodstock bike gallery later today
i pick up my stock kilo wheel there later, too
not bad, if i had actually paid the 50 or 80 bucks to registed i'd be more upset or might even go out there with my trek, but still... good enough!
my first fixed century will have to wait. perhaps 'til i build up new wheels.
addendum: i got to ride home at 48 x 18 with my new wheel, first time i've ever really changed gear ratios (i.e. rode two different things in one day).
they say spinning is winning... i won free breakfast, a bike jersey, and a big nap later today
edit: aside from my derailleur days, working from like 39 x 25 to 53 x 11, hell yea!
i didn't finish but i did all the hills and rode 65 miles fixed. still a decent accomplishment.
Zac is selling himself out. Those hills were fucking rough, the descents even gnarlier. Doing it fixed with only a front brake...I can't even imagine. Props to him.
I finished the ride and I don't know if I feel accomplished or not. Riding your bike from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM hurts. And training today hurt even worse. I tried so hard to get out of practice this morning but my coach wasn't having it. I hurt now.
my sit spots are sore, and my legs aren't pushing me very quickly today.
7 to 6? A century in 11hrs?
Zacp, I think I saw you, did not click it might be you, props to riding fixed, good going. The hills weren't that bad and the descents were slow. I used it as an unsupported training ride until I got to the salmon at the end was nice.
grimm:7 to 6? A century in 11hrs?
Zac and I did the ride as ride along mechanics. It took so long because I had to stop and help people with flats, jammed chains, other issues, blah, blah. That ate up so much time. I spent half an hour helping one guy with his bike and then he ended up deciding to take a ride to the finish. So pissed.
Okay, that makes much more sense.
Shoulda smacked a hoe.
K_phomma:Shoulda smacked a hoe.
If it wasn't for the fact that I got to ride for free, got free beer, food, coffee, Gu, Bio-Freeze, and clothing I would've. But it worked out to be a pretty nice deal. I think next year I'll volunteer for something the day before so I can ride the century at my own pace, though.
