I have a SKS 45 had in my part bin which I am using on the rear of my bike. The problem is, the front one won't fit on my fork. Is there a place in town that sells just a front for tight clearances? (Long shot.)

Alternatives? Maybe I should get a downtube fender? Thoughts from rainy day riders appreciated...

Anyone know if these fit a tight clearance road fork?

    That looks pretty tight.

I can fit my SKS Raceblades on my Jamis. Its a little tight if not adjusted just right.

I know Race Blades will work but I'm not trying to spend $55 when I need just the front... particularly on the rainy season left to come (which I hope is not much longer.)

There better not be a ton of this rain nonsense left. I already too my front one off and am not putting it back on till fall. :)

And those damn raceblades are horribly expensive, for a couple pieces of plastic, some wire and grippy rubber things. Seriously, I could by a krypto mini for that price, and im sure those are way more difficult to make.

Do you really need a front fender?

Yep, I rode into work today and my shoes and legs were all muddy. I stopped commuting by car and I'm actually going to be selling it soon.

I commute/ride everywhere during the rain and I don't use a front fender anymore because I don't see the point. I wear cycling tights and a sneakers to work and change (or throw my work pants over the spandex) when I get there. You're going to get wet if it's raining, regardless of if you have a front fender or not.

Hmm. I guess there just isn't a whole lot of mud in the Pearl, which I ride through to get to work.

Totally. I ride through a MUP to get to work.

    BTW, this rain is depressing.

    Damn, yeah, mud sucks.

And the rain is slightly depressing. We did Springwater yesterday and it totally fucking dumped on us. I kind of liked it actually since it was a weird misty kind of rain, but not when I stopped for water and realized that my feet weighed 8 pounds each because my shoes were filled with water and my socks were soaked all the way through.

I got some Sidi's last night and I'm getting some pedals tonight. Finally going clipless. Enough of this canvas van slip on shit. Now I just need those socks that go over your cycling shoes. I'm going to be that guy.

I run a fender during the winter months, but ditch it at the first sign or spring. Also use clipless so I switch my shoes when I get to work so if they are a little damp no biggie. But if its much more than a drizzle I put on the booties which I hate to do if I can help it.

MIN what type of options are out there for a downtube fender?

Krystner, SIDIs are great, you get the dominators or something? What pedals you gonna get?

I'm still running a rear fender, I'm not a big fan of a wet ass and a line up my back, but the front one just seems silly to me. What kind of booties do you use? I want to try to protect the shoes.

I got the Genius 2 SIDIs? Not too familiar with the models. You're going to shit yourself over this though...slightly used, I paid $5.00 for them.

I am moving bassakwards. Since I moved closer to work, I commute fully dressed for work, work shoes, no helmet and coffee mug in hand. Not even a backpack. So I'm sweating the fenders and currently I'm trying to hide the fact that my pants look like I'd been gardening in the mud.

So that's why I'm getting rid of my Dominators and CB Candy pedals and moved to platforms.

I don't get nearly as wet with a front fender than without. I was on the springwater yesterday and my shoes were barely wet when I got home. They also keep water from flying up into your face.

Haha, that's such a great image. I throw my slacks over my spandex when I get in and the expressions on the other analysts faces when I take them off at the end of the day is always kinda strange. I guess having a conversation with a co-worker while unbuttoning your pants is kind of weird.

Nice. I think mine are Genius's too. I rock some look Keos with them, love them but sometimes walking with them is a little tricky. I bought some Sugio booties from RCB the winter before last. Oh yes, and I hate you for getting them that cheap. :)

Grimm, I was thinking something like this. to krsyten's point of looking silly - yes it does. But it's easily removeable. Better than nothing?

Yeah, I'm getting look pedals today. I'm gonna rock the clipless on the mixte, hahaha. Epic. I'll look into the booties you mentioned.

Right? $5 for $300 shoes? Fuck yeah.

i use one of those, and positioned right it keeps your legs and feet from getting too much road spray unless you have a lot of corners...as when you turn it don't work so good. but it still throws road spray into your drive train..
