I have been thinking of getting one of these for my road bike. Seems like it would be good for hauling kids and groceries or whatever. Anyone here ever used one or know someone who has? Any opinions on how they function?
Thanks.
all I know is they are expensive. Check out the home made xtracycle that the guy from bikes to rwanda has...it might be on their site.
Go talk to the folks at clever cycles. They're pretty nice and are the authorities in hauling kids and goods by bike. I want a bakfiets really, really badly, but that's big dosh and I'm brokey.
The have xtracycles, big dummy's (I think), and a host of other, overpriced swankmobiles.
Mark my words, the Dutch bike IS the new fixed gear.
Awesome. We've talked about a bakfiet or a family tandem...$$$.
Thanks though. I'll check those places out.
A good friend of mine has one and she hauls her two kids around. The little one in a seat and the bigger one on the board. They love it. Theirs is on a mountain though. Not sure if I would recommend putting it on a road bike. Seems like a road bike (depends on the bike I guess) would be to light weight and would be more likely to fail. Just my opinion though. I'd probably talk to the folks at clever cycles to find out what type of bike to put it on.
American dutch bikes are so much nicer than dutch dutch bikes
