Was there a cop car you just didn't see or was it a trap? I know sometimes they just set up motorcyclists just chilling and waiting. Was the cop nice about it?

cop car just saw me. he was pretty neutral as was i. probably should sweet talked him though

  2.

Eh, bad luck then. You shoulda offered him some sweet drugs or a preteen hooker or something. That usually works for me.

Bummer, dude. Would it have been fruitless to attempt an escape?

*edit* I've always thought that if cop tried to pull me over on my bike I would just jett up a one way on the sidewalk and disappear into a building. Has anyone attempted a similar maneuver with any luck??

That sucks to hear you got a ticket. Here's some advice:

    - Go to your court date and plead "not guilty". It doesn't matter if you think you're guilty, you need to plead not-guilty to get a chance to lower your fine.

    - Go to court for your trial and before the trial ask the cop if he will allow you to take "Bike Safety School" in exchange for dropping the charges. If this is your first ticket he'll probably say yes unless he is a real dick. You don't want to go to trial because you won't win, but you will be able to get the ticket dropped completely or at least cut in half.

  3.

Escape: bad idea. Y'all remember what happened to James Chasse? I don't think it would be beyond some of the PPD to straight up run you over.

All the law I know is protest-related, and I know if you get arrested and the cop doesn't show up at the trial the charges are dropped. Any chance its the same with tickets?

So yeah, the Portland police literally do run you over if you are on your bike and try to escape.

Charges will be dropped if the officer fails to show. This doesn't happen very often as they get paid double time to go to court but a friend who works for the Washington County traffic court said that on her first day 6 cases were dismissed because the officer didn't show.

  4.

oh oh I gotta weigh in on this..the PPB is like my favorite nemesis!

you can't outrun a cop's radio, and don't forget this is portland, if your black they'll shoot you, they only taze and stomp your head if your white.

So what's a gangsta to do? have someone elses name and birthday and ssn memorized. That way if you have a warrant under your real name, you don't have to go to jail. Of course if you get caught in the act thats a felony.

I would really recommend doing just what ya did. get the ticket, don't mouth off. It's not absurd to ask for a written warning if it's your first time.

So you got a ticket, and it's in your name. If you don't even plan on driving or working for the sherrifs office, toss it. Sure you'll get some hate mail but it'll stop after 5 years.

But were all law abiding guys here right so we wol'nt do that either. You have two options, if it's your first offence, pay $35 and go to a victims impact panel class, or fight the ticket with a court issued public defender, I've gotten some really smart defenders who have gotten me outta certain jail time on little tiny screw ups..like once the cop didn't put the full year on the ticket and he argued that it could have been 1905 not 2005, the judge was laughing and the cop has steam coming out of his ears...

Another time he just kept setting the court date back again and again and finally the cop didn't show...charges dropped.

just go to court..it's a cake walk..the least you can do is take the class..and oh yeah i think it even goes off your record.

james chasse was stomped to death by the PPB in broad daylight in the pearl, not even a reprimand for the pigs involved, google james chasse.....btw did you just move here, this thing was kinda hard to miss last summer.

it's common for cops to "bump" motorists who don't hear or see that they are being pulled over, they have push bars so no damage occurs to the cars, of couse they can also "pit" an eluding car, only with the sgt on dutys permission, thats where I got off, the cop who pitted me didn't have permission. i'm lucky I had my seatbelt on or i would be deadified for sure.

    pit=pursuit interdiction tactic.

I don't know how this would apply to bikes though, but your best bet is to not ignore them, just pull over so it does not get to that point. They are not beyond the old "suspect shot in the back whilst trying to escape" shit here in portland.

I have lived in some fucked up places with brutal cops, but PPB takes the cake, other places it seems like there is a few bad apples, portland seems to collect bad apples and promote them. Those rampart division cops in lA that got busted for planting dope? 2 of 'em work for PPB now.

if you have seen how stoked they get when they get to don the riot gear at protest you'll know what I mean.

don't think I was being all anti-new to portland , we need new blood, thats my take. I was just kinda shocked that this got NO coverage outside portland....cops stomp out a homeless mentally ill dude....and no one cared.

sounds like that Chasse guy was the sane one, and we as a society are fucking nuts....
