so my buddy and I starting on planning doing another alleycat here. won't be for a few months but we want more than two and a half weeks to plan it out this time around. but some feedback about things you guys might want incorporated or didn't like from the MASH2MASH or things that should change. we have a couple of different themes for this one in mind.
it won't be ending at a venue and all stupid like that. most likely a house with some kegs or a bar. prizes will probably be about the same. tattoo gift certificates and what not. with a few other random things included.
but I totally want some input!
word. ages?
you wanna grab some beers and i'll help you come up with some ideas? also can i please please help?
can i work a checkpoint?
I'll hold and fill water cups with rufie laced liquid.
playground_terror:you wanna grab some beers and i'll help you come up with some ideas? also can i please please help?
Totally, me too! I'd love to help out.
tattoos as a prize is lame.
MIN:tattoos as a prize is lame.
purely subjective
I think it's a sweet prize.
krystenr:I think it's a sweet prize.
me too
mizake:krystenr:I think it's a sweet prize.
me too
i want that prize.
it's just one of them I had rims, tires, and a ton of other crap at my last one.
if you included a Parking struture to maybe take stairs up and ride down, it would have to be a unattended one, we dont need the heat on us, or rent a cops......there is one over by the train station, I think. Any others?
more prizes, a race that i can actually finish. definitley footdown and trackstand. and water stations!!!!!! i can help too jenn, once golf is over it will free up my schedule
mizake:krystenr:I think it's a sweet prize.
me too
tattoo gift certificates ftw
oh! and i can help :]
less cops :)
seriously though, i think finishing up at a house with kegs is a good idea.
People should pick their prizes at the end.
Make people do silly things at the check points.
All ages.
That west hills check point got a lot of people lost. Maybe a small map for hard to find check points.
agreed on the all ages and the stuff at checkpoints thing. that would be fun

isn't that the point of the race....to know your way around.
i think we shouldnt do a checkpoint like taht, too far. haha im lazyy
I thought the point of a race was to ride your ass off, not get lost in the hills. Im fine with addresses and such when the blocks make sense. But up in the hills the streets are effed. Im probably just bitter I didnt happen to know where it was. Other people didnt have a problem.
yung jeezy pdx:i think we shouldnt do a checkpoint like taht, too far. haha im lazyy
no the length makes it a it better, I think it should be pretty long
the tattoo gift certificates would be cool if everyone wanted tattoos but that is not the case. but tattoos make you faster so whoever wins will probably want more anyway.
my only issue with the mash 2 mash race was that it was mash2band2event2band2band2mash
Longer races break up the racers more and leave more room for different routes...
do it championship style, brake ok, no gears
fake package pick ups and drops( big boxes, tubes, heavy legal folders, etc..,)
do it on a sunday when less people will get run over or ticketed for slopping red lights.
that would be fun, lemme in Jen
yes this is a good idea(picking up stuff). too many good ideas, fun stuff at checkpoints and white folks are the best yet i think

this sounds good, i like the package idea
this sounds like a really good idea. would it be open to all ages? i promise i wont drink any of teh beerzz. ahem.
i don't like checkpoints...too many people with one person signing. maybe pick up and deliver?
Pick up and deliver is impractical. Think about how many things checkpoints would have to keep near them so people could pick it up and take it with them. Also, how are the judges supposed to know what "stuff" is legit at the end of the race? Is it going to have some special marking on it? Lame. It will also take up just as much time to stop, pick an object of your choice, securely place it in your bag, and then continue to ride.
To whoever is sad about the washington park checkpoint for whatever reason, (too far, I got lost, etc.) that is the idea of the race. You are supposed to prove you can ride hard and that you know your way around the city.
M2M was my first Alleycat, but I thought it was great. I can understand minors being upset they weren't allowed into the final destination, so I concur that a house would be a more suitable endpoint.
Looking forward to the next one.
*fun* things to do at checkpoints
little bit longer distance overall and between checkpoints to reduce bottlenecks
yah we were gonna span out a lot more for sure, the mash2mash one was pretty much put together in three weeks and one of the weeks not knowing if it was gonna happen because of the mash guys. so for getting all the prizes, and shit put together that fast it was alright, i wanna hit more eastside this next time. longer distance some more flatland etc exception to another random hill maybe haha.
but we for sure are gonna make checkpoints more "fun"
one thing i would say is to make the entry fee cheaper. the only reason i didnt enter the last one was because i was so broke. i think 5$ would be nice
yah we just had a high cost cause of the venue for the movie and all that, some last minute prizes and random shit.
next time for sure will be less. no venue and shit, and money will go to prizes and beer haha.
i still lost about $300 to the whole thing, but it doesn't matter that's not what it was about. i'm just happy everyone came out.
oh dang. how much did the venue and that such set you back? i bet if you went around and asked if shops and stores would sponsor it and in return get promotion for their company they would give you some gift certificates and such. and then just get some tires and stuff like that. thats what we did for radderday. everyone loves tires
yah that's what i did here's the breakdown though of money actually spent.
venue- $550
projector and screen- $180
spoke cards/flyers- $40
rims- $60
and a few other random things that i can't place right now.
everything else was sponsored by shops and places. the race entry just covered the cost of the venue.
but like i said this one will be more planned out (hopefully haha)
and with not having the venue the entry won't have to be all crazy.
sounds good
goody
well yeah cut that venue and projector out and you would have some seriously bangin prizes. like say... 550$?
walton wishes

M2M was my first Alleycat,
imagine having to do that all day as a job....now you have some idea where your particular hobby got much of its soul.
Don't take my retort to hard, if m2m was your first "alleycat" it would be impossible to know that the "package pickup" is a part of several messenger world champs and quite a few other big checkpoint races. And no it's not hard to have packages on hand. fed-ex boxes and envelopes are free as would be 36"x4"round cardboard tubes, newspapers with a rubberband around them, some deliveries at my job in SF were just a single sheet of paper with a phone number on them for betting parlours. Some races have had wheels and frames as "packages" some has half-racks of PBR. These are all preplaced at one checkpoint the day before, numbered by rider before anyone even signs up. That way the selection is random, fair and no one hands you shit, you know your number and you dig thru the pile.
Even the "citizen" chrome bag will strap up a wheel or large USPS tape-top.
trust me, Chaz will still get first even with 16"x16"x16 strapped up.
man, satyricon used to be 400
there should be checkpoints in n/ne
weekday rate. mine was on the weekend
jonl:there should be checkpoints in n/ne
yes
Jennx:weekday rate. mine was on the weekend
gotcha, it's still way too much for that venue. Who cares that it has history, the sound sucks and the sound guys suck.

That all makes sense, but I think these races are more casual as most people in them aren't actual messengers. It still seems like a lot of work to get all those packages and number them beforehand etc.
I didn't take your retort personally, btw. I appreciate the info. If you can't learn from other people, then you suck, right?
Right.
damn i'm a dick. sorry duder.
