How is the cost of living there? We have a studio right now and pay $725 a month. We are looking for a loft or a 1 bedroom apartment. She works in retail. I'm in the manufacturing industry so I think we will have no problems finding work.
Any advice on where too look or areas to stay away from?
    Hi!

Sup dude. Nice to see you're thinking of heading north.
You'll be pretty happy with the prices. You could find a 1 bedroom for what you pay for the studio.
A lot of people like NE and SE. I grew up in NE and it's cool, but I prefer SE. Pretty much everything is a 30 min bike ride away if you are in Portland though, so being off in the cuts isn't so bad. Whisper me if you need/want more info.
Oh, and punch Fletcher in the beard for me next time you see him.

  2.

haha, fletcher. that dude is legit

Yeah, unless you're almost blackout drunk at 3 AM with him outside a taco joint. I'll elaborate later, but let's just say he told me an untruth, and it didn't work out well for me.

I live in Los Angeles with my girlfriend. Our lease is up in the beginning of January and we are planning on moving out of LA. Portland is one of the cities on the top of our list. I have a few friends that live/have lived there and they love it.

I am an aerospace machinist and would like to stay in the same field. From what I have seen, there are a lot of machine shops in Portland, one being Chris King...

Some of my work, and photos of my bikes are in my portfolio, linked above. Including hubs and other bike parts I've made and sell.

hey portland. A big and warm hi from across the pond - london's famous london, in the UK.

I take photographs and drink warm beer. No plans to invade portland as yet, but there's always a first time for everything. No pictures of me but it's not like any of you are gonna spot me :-)

I'm currently rollin' this (red / in the foreground):

I can't track stand to save my life, either.
A fact that has led to some embarrassment of late.
    Specifically today.
After nearing falling under the MAX trying to clip out of my eggbeaters and push the door open button simultaneously, I arrived at 21st Ave Cycles and had the same problem, this time nearly putting my hand through the glass of their front door.
    I Am So COOOL!

And then, I almost crashed into the back of a parked car at a red light right in front of Ash St, trying to track stand.

    I'm learning...

i wouldnt advise learning to trackstand while clipless. learn to trackstand first, then learn with clipless.

personally, i am more worried about the chain

(also - i have a zaffiro in the back, its held up good, heavy and soft but whatever, it was a doug 2-for-5 special. i havent even skidded through it yet, running 48x16 (3x1... so ONE patch! sweet!)

    anyway

lol 48/16 is a nice ratio to have. Just rotate your tire every couple of days and you're good

    I used to ride a 40x15 (~72 inches)
It topped out easily, but was a solid bet for the hilly SW.. and it smoked about 3/4 of the ppl in Mash2Mash
