Hey my name is Amy and I just moved to Portland from Houston, TX. Moved up here with my girl and we don't know anyone. I really want to meet some nice people who just wanna ride, have fun, and have some silly sessions. I am living on the SW side. oh, and I need a job! HA!

    Where in SW? Hillsdale, perhaps..

  2.

actually I don't even know what is considered which neighborhood. I know that I live in sw downtown. Just ready to ride! oh, is brakeless illegal here?

  3.

I moved to get out of TX, visited here back in April for about 4 days and knew that this was The City! The city is so progressive and the weather is much better than 95degree plus days with %100 humidity back in Houston.

Downtown is proper. Brakeless is illegal. Meh, enough people get away with it, though.. if you do happen to get caught, just make up some story like you had to ride your track bike to work and you'll most likely get a fix-it ticket.

  4.

while brakeless is illegal, brakless is tarck

  5.

So do yall throwdown sessions during the week? or have weekly rides?

  6.

    waffle ride.

Welcome Amy! We like to act like stuck up bikesnobs online because we know that we are all (most) too nice to really be like that in real life. BTW, do you guys talk about carrots, assholes and heroes all in the same context? Like people who stick carrots in their assholes need to get some better heroes?

There are many during the week things that I've heard about, but I'm just moving back to Portland after being away for a couple of years. I hear people serve breakfast and coffee on the bridges to cyclists certain mornings!!
    The waffle rides are notorious.
Rides to Alpenrose to the track are common.
Forest Park cross training goes down regularly.
Mt. Tabor rides are a staple.
Definitely ask around and keep checking in and you'll find some cool people who like to ride and have fun and get silly!

Good luck with the job search! Let me know if you find anything cool with room for one more...

I love to sleep. I tried not breathing a few times for a bit. It was surprisingly difficult. I like to ride bikes. I don't like to drink beer, but I enjoy hanging out with people who do...

I moved back to Portland a month ago from Santa Rosa. Was there a couple years. California is the pits. Oregon is the bests.
I ride an orange Motobecane single-speed.
    I'm married to Nate/cantstopwontstop.

Santa Rosa! What a delightful... hot... desert wasteland... with lots of smelly hicks... ugh I hate Santa Rosa. I grew up in the San Rafael area ( Novato ) and I don't miss it at all. I do miss SF though. LOTS.
    But welcome!

Yes, too hot for sure. SF is nice. But too expensive. The only thing I miss about SR is the bike path out to Sebastopol. Pretty ride.

  16.

I like Glen Ellen cuz my grammy and grampy live there. But I don't do too much socializing so I wouldn't know about the people. beautiful rides.

  17.

I mean, don't get me wrong. I do have some great friends there and my sister lives there, and some of the areas are really pretty and stuff, and SF is tight. Just everything else was really hard to take.

yeah, SF is usually the highlight of the trip. like I said though, never really met any of the people.

I live in Los Angeles with my girlfriend. Our lease is up in the beginning of January and we are planning on moving out of LA. Portland is one of the cities on the top of our list. I have a few friends that live/have lived there and they love it.

I am an aerospace machinist and would like to stay in the same field. From what I have seen, there are a lot of machine shops in Portland, one being Chris King...

Some of my work, and photos of my bikes are in my portfolio, linked above. Including hubs and other bike parts I've made and sell.

How is the cost of living there? We have a studio right now and pay $725 a month. We are looking for a loft or a 1 bedroom apartment. She works in retail. I'm in the manufacturing industry so I think we will have no problems finding work.

Any advice on where too look or areas to stay away from?

    Not exactly an introduction post.
