    always on time couriers inc.

    when i got hired they actually didnt have any work for the first few weeks, it was just starting up as a business.

    that plus me getting lost riding back to my campus made me figure, ok i'll stick to my crappy dining hall gig.

    good and bad choice, looking back four months later. it would have been a mess, but nobody ever thinks "yea i'm glad i served ice cream cones (and stuck around campus and went to frat basements and such) instead of trying out as a messenger for a few months".

    there are also cabs and local vets, i understand the latter was not an option in this situation.

    i feel like i'm often in situations where i know i'll be shooting myself in the foot but i do nothing to stop them

    as of a month ago the closest vet to my house was still a half hour ride on the bus which isn't exactly great for emergencies

    I'm still not used to thinking about cabs as an option, because I'm so used to living in shitty places where cabs refuse to come but the folks you're requesting a cab from won't even bother telling you that you're SOL, although I guess the cab might actually have been cheaper than the zipcar in this case

    i've lived like six places with pets and only once has there been a local vet. inconvenient.

    confession:

    i have a speech impediment (i forget the official diagnosis), but when i was in philly for school everyone thought it was an oregonian accent. and when i'm here, people sometimes ask me if i'm from england or france or south africa.

    1) I have had a LiveJournal since 2001 and still use it
    2) I've met almost all my boyfriends through that website
    3) Sometimes I recognize people from Portland LiveJournal communities in real life
    4) When this happens I point them out to my friends and refer to them by their LJ usernames

    i was biking on 99th to stark when a black toyota with WA plates on it yells something at me and goes ahead... just in time to catch the stark stoplight. so i catch up, track-stand (by which i mean slowly wobble forward on my geared bike) a little bit and look into the open window and see two okay-looking girls. the passenger says, hey i hear biking gives you a tight ass! is that true?

    i say, "fuck yea!"

    she says something like, "you know what a tight ass is good for..." then trails off cuz i crank myself forward and turn down stark to zip over mount tabor and to citybikes to buy a lockring before they closed.

    yea!

Even though the odds are totally stacked against me, I still hold out the hope of riding away into the sunset with some beautiful bikable lady.

    i confess that while in Chicago, the only people i found remotely attractive where messengers. fucking sexy as shit braving the street over there. made me really want to ride them though....the street...not the messenger :P

    You should check out the "Stitch 'n' Bitch" books. The library has them and Debbie Stoeller (?) does a really good job describing the whole process. I can give you some help too when we get together for the book club.
