Just saw this on Indymedia, looks interesting. Obviously not fixed gear exclusive, but definitely bike related.
Heres the text:
BIKE FARM TO HOLD COMMUNITY EVENT
CELEBRATING GRAND OPENING
Portland OR May 17th 2008 11pm-6pm
Bike Farm is a consensus-based, bicycle repair collective open to the
public. The focus is on affordable access to tools and providing a
welcoming environment to learn about bicycle maintenance through
volunteer mechanics. The shop is currently located in a detached garage
in the Alberta arts district, and open three days a week. Operations are
sustained through membership, which is available at Yearly ($50),
Monthly ($20) or Hourly ($5) rates.
An excited group of community development students from PSU are
volunteering their time to put together the Grand Opening; a community
block party. The event will include many interactive booths, an array of
food, a diverse group of local bands, beer, and an opportunity to
participate in a touring workshop, from extremely experienced mechanics
and touring addicts. Space in the workshop is limited so arrive early if
interested.
Through this event we hope to promote bicycling as an accessible, easy
to maintain, and environmentally sustainable means of transportation.
Our goal is to promote Bike Farm as a vehicle for cost effective and
easy bike maintenance. Through this promotion, Bike Farm hopes to attain
a larger member base and with this larger member base, Bike Farm will
have the ability to move to a larger and more permanent location. This
new location will allow them to better serve a larger portion of the
population.
