why yes, i HAVE lived here for 18.5 of my 20 years, but no, i don't really know where anything is. that's why the above post said "right by doug fir, w burnside" til just now. so when i tried to go to doug fir yesterday, i wound up at berbati's on the wrong side of the river. whatever tho.

jeffrey lewis is pretty cool, but all i can ever listen to by him are the crass covers and the complete history of punk rock.

the crass covers were the first time i could understand the lyrics and completely rekindled my love and respect for crass. forward thinking for punk at the time in terms of music, brilliant lyricists, great cultural subversion as well (in terms of them as an art collective)

i like a lot of his original stuff, but i guess you have to be into the frankness and simplicity of anti-folk.
such as...
kisses are weird, but they can be fun

haha that anti-folk history video left me in shock when i first saw it. and the cover of big a little a is one of the most intense songs ever. jeffrey lewis murdered at making covers that sound almost nothing like the original.

i mean, his own stuff is good, but after shit like big a little a, it's hard to get as into his stuff...some of the covers are just too epic to forget. kind of like how i've always loved "harvest" but i can't stand any of neil young's other stuff because it pales in comparison, even if it is good. hearing something too good can spoil you on a musician.

I don't know about Kickball, I've never heard them, but I imagine they'd have to be pretty spectacular for you to place them above Good Luck, because they shred way too hard.
I don't know what coop/co-op name they're going for, but everything I've read about the show writes it out as "the coop" so I dunno.

and the coop is coop, not co-op. i was at a show there the other night and talked to a guy from the touring band who had expected to play a grocery store.
i've seen paul barib..barbeau...fuck, i'm not scrolling up to see how it's spelled...that guy...i've seen him. i like him less live than on recordings. could have been an off night, though.
