So next week the track development classes are starting at Alpenrose. Anyone planning on going?
I am thinking I will do at least a couple weeks of them. Depending on how they are I will probably either keep doing those or start going to the Fast Twitch Fridays and try to get one weekday at the track for at least part of the summer. Im debating between driving or taking the bus up there for it after work.
I've gotten clearance from Mangement to attend the Weds classes. Pretty much the same deal-- I want to take the first couple of weeks and see where it goes (racing!).
I'ma drive and can put two bikes on the rear rack, and another two inside the sportwagon. That means I have room for three.
I'd love to drive you to the track, but I ain't a taxi service, so if you're serious you'll meet me at Laurelhurst park and we'll load up and go.
Whisperino.
I'm planning on teaching there ;D
Y'all will really like it. Dont know who else is teaching, but they are usually pretty sweet. Depending on how fast you pick it up, it normally takes 2 or 3 times to get real comfey in a pace line and ok with racing (we almost always do mock races at the end of the night).
The bus is ok to take up. Either the 1 will put you (almost) right in front of the entrance to the track, or the 54/56 will drop you at the bottom of shattuk. Then its like a .5 mile walk up the hill.
Look forward to seeing yall out there! I'm the dude in the bright ass yellow spandex
I'm going to this and will be biking from SE Portland. Alpenrose is actually right next to my apartment. I don't have a track bike so I'm planning on renting for about a month or so and trying out some races. If it's something I'm still into I'll finally break down and buy a track bike. Probably trade my San Jose for an older geared road bike.

word. what time would you head out....cuz as you know i get off late(630) on wednesdays. sorry I left abruptly the other night from the bye and bye. I was a little intoxicated.
oh btw I unfortunately I can't go this wednesday :(
Yeah. Drink, drank, drunk. I woke up in the hurt sack on friday morning...
I think classes start at 6, so I'd like to be on the road by 5:30.
If you need a bike, please get there at 5.30. Also, pretty, pretty please bring exact change. When everyone brings $20s for a $5 class, we run out of change real fast :)
I'd really like to go.... how late does it run?
Till dark. The class normally runs a couple hours, then we do some mock racing (usually). Then if there is any light left, we just open up the track and mess around. For people that really want to go fast, I usually do a "ride till you drop" paceline where I just slowly pick it up till everyone drops. It's just pretty laid back and chill :)
I am so looking forward to this.
Anybody caravaning/carpooling out there? I'd really like to get out there. I'd need to rent...

Let's definitely start going every Sunday that we can (with the exception of this coming one). You know I'll chip in for gas and tell you that you look sexy.
for sure. the only bummer is that im fairly certain in order to race you are required to have done at least one track class. so if you want to race try and skip class on a Wednesday and take a class at some point.

I think you're right. But the term will be over before you know it and that will probably be around the same time I'm comfortable with racing.

good idea....i should have a "doctors appt" and get off work early next week....this week I am stuck working.
Sean, you should come out with Keven and I on Sundays, too.
most definitely. i'll be happy to show you the ropes....along with everyone else who will be out there.
Haha, ooh, seasoned pro, are we?
haha not even close! but i would be happy to lead a pace line or something like that. i dont mind pulling, makes me stronger!

yeah I am hell of nervous. pacelines are one thing on the road but I gotta say seeing it in person made me nervous. I am sure it's not that bad when you are out there.
yeah for me its all about trusting the person in front of you. thats why during the class on saturday i made a point to stay behind an instructor the whole time and then staying on his ass. because there is nothing worse than getting stuck behind a squirly rider who has the potential to take you down. i get out of class at 7 this Wednesday....we could potentially drive out there and ride around after the class is up if you want....im seriously pissed i cant be there friday...at least ill get my 500 m in on thursday pending rain...

I really wish I could be there this wednesday but I have to work late every once in a while and wednesday is that day.fuck.
Still have room in the car for two more humans+bikes for wed's class. Rolling out from se 39th/Burnside @ 5:15.

I'll go with you, lovey. I get out at 7 PM, too. Think they'll still rent at that time though?

Yeah I might bus out there. I don't wanna ride there and then be all jello-legs on the track.
I'll be driving if anyone wants to meet in sellwood around 5:20 or 5:30 I can give 2 people a ride.
Kev, there really isnt a difference between what you did on Sat and what you would do on Wed, besides the outies being on the track with ya. You even did the mock scratch race right? If you feel ok/SAFE on the track, I'd say you would be ok to try an actual race. It's all about you feeling safe on the track. Falling isnt very fun, trust me.
oh yeah no im totally ready to race, well excited anyway. I'm going out there on Thursday for sure. I am nervous though. But i'm stoked. I just meant dont you have to have done a class in general if you want to race out there? I could be wrong. You were the one in yellow right? Sorry i'm having trouble figuring out who is who in real life haha...i should have said hi.
Yeah, Thor, say hi next time!
So is there a dress code for Alpenrose?
Because I really want to do the classes and race, but I don't have / need a lot of spandex. I have two pairs of shorts, but no jerseys.
no dress code at all! I've seen people take the classes in jeans, lycra, shorts...whatever. Just a helmet for sure.
Dont show up in your birthday suit. At least not until everyone there knows you. But that would be pretty aero…
Yeah, you can wear whatever you want, but I think you'll find that some spandex shorts will be more comfy.
Sleeveless tops are tabooish. At the classes, we really dont give a shit. But for the races, you have to have sleeves or some form or another.
And I somewhat said hi, I was rolling around with zak when kev was racing lol
I probably won't be wearing spandex of any form as I find it incredibly uncomfortable. I'll probably just try and pickup some wools that breath. Afterall, the wind resistance isn't a big deal for me.
I think you should go for a full body spandex suit. Or maybe just a full body wax.

Haha, sort of? We saw you, but you didn't say anything!

Oh man, do it, Max.
Hey Thor, if it's drizzling off and on like today, no class tomorrow?
I actually really want a skin suit...but i am excited to rock the PSU kit for track....cutest colors that ever were.

Ahh, dude, I love that kit!

Pretty much. The best way to know is to call Steve Garcia at 503 293-7247. He's the ring leader of the class.
As for the skinsuit, if you are gonna do it, do it right:

you said skin suit........
Ugh, I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow I've been looking forward to this all week.
Since it seems like there are a lot of people going to this does anyone want to get together for some beers after the class? The Dublin Pub is close by and has a good beer selection. We should take over the bar with our leopard print skin suits and spandex.
i would be down for that. however if i go out i'm not going for the class, but to ride a bit after the class....so i dont know if people are willing to wait or want to ride around as well....
i have class till 7 so i have to come out after.
