So citybikes won't do it, a better cycle won't do it. Does anybody know of anywhere that will? I reeeeaaaalllly don't want to hear about how you think its a bad idea, not safe, etc etc etc. Just wanna know of places in town that do it thanks.
Duuuude. What r u thinking?
Bad IDEAA.
Don't care if you do it or not. Curious: why?
I think Doug had threads added to a fork by Ahearne.. i can't remember... whatever the framebuilder on page st is between vancouver and williams
Yeah ahearne. Call first though coz grumpy guy.
Aubrey got a some threaded at bike central
like forreally real? or is it the joke where some one asks question and you refer them to dean to go get chewed out for it?
nope, aubrey had dean thread some 1" track forks to use on that sparton.
nope as in you won't get chewed out. it is for really real.
citybikes wont?
i went in there with my cannondale fork and they were like sure no problem.
iirc, most places will only add threads to an existing threaded fork
yeah, thats what they said. they will add threads, not thread a threadless fork.
try the CCC. it will be expensive though.
Im waiting to see if buggy will just do it
Just go to a framebuilder. Bike shops don't understand that taps and dies are wear items, and it's a crap shoot as to whether the person doing it actually knows how to operate the tool.
I'm not sure why Park charges about double for that die compared to what a die that size normally costs.
Yeah if buggy won't do it I'm gonna see if mark belladonna will
Is there any specific reason not to get threadless forks threaded? From what I saw, Aubrey's came out pretty good.
Yeah, I think why some places won't do it has to do with the thickness of the tubing on threaded vs. Threadless steerer tubes being different, and so threading a threadless steerer tube that has thinner tubing could theoretically make it dangerously thin and compromise the integrity. I think places just won't do it for liability reasons mostly. Could be wrong though

i think this..
It is that reason.
So you measure it and compare it to a threaded fork. It has to be somewhere close to 22.2 for a quill stem to work.
Shops won't do it for liability reasons but it can work
inb4 people say "just get a threaded fork"
use the threadless fork threadless...
buggy did it. if buggy approved it Ill ride the shit out of it, hes a solid dude.
Still though... why?
the reason they won't do it is because it's way easier to fuck it up and ruin your fork and they dont wanna take that risk. adding threads is easy because you just continue the existing threads.. but starting new threads gives a possibility of fucking it up where you start the threads.
marshall if youre worried about ballin you can just get a cinelli alter and keep it threadless problem solved
alters arent that great, just ok.
..I hate alters. And they never came in 90mm I don't think. And my concern wasn't "ballin" I just already had a ck threaded headset and nice quill stem
they did come in 90mm, i have a 120 that i might put on the new build.

This is true because a bike shop has no way to keep the tool perpendicular to the fork, another reason why a framebuilder is the way to go. Bring a good attitude and a six-pack.
well today we learned that threading a fork is a bad idea. way to go crooked threads!
It's probably be cheaper to buy a damn threadless stem anyways.
I have one that I'm willing to give for free
It's a 130 tho
gonna asplode prolly
