So down with this idea. Fanned it on Facebook. If I was in town I would show up. I think that idea gives the best compromise/best chance for community support.

If there was an indoor velodrome I would not get fat and out of shape in the winter.

That's because you can't fit a 25O in there. 187 is actually pretty decent. The tract isn't being build to host world championships. Mabye some decent 6days, but that's it. It'll already attract an international crowd just because it is indoor, and well designed (unlike Boulder, which is horribly underbanked.)

The ability to move the whole damn thing outside into that courtyard is just bloody amazing.

Yeah, what Kevin said. Toddistic, beggars can't be choosers. Track racing is already a niche of a niche... if any city deserves an indoor velo in America though, it's Portland.

The funny thing is, at least at the beginning of last summer, track was popular enough to actually need two velodromes in the city. When we had to do 4 and 6 up match sprints at the track due to daylight limitations and have two separate cat 5 fields, that's when you knew capacity was pretty much at it's limit.

yeah, even a 4 up match sprint doesn't really feel like a match sprint

There is a place for 3-4-5 up sprints. They are a part of the sport (rep rides ect.) But every night, and forcing rides to 2 laps is bullshit.

There's a lot of support out there. Hopefully its enough

This is what would happen to Alpenrose if an indoor velodrome was to happen at the Memorial Coliseum.

    Or this

some asshole would chop the der hanger off a decent road bike, then ride it fixed with no foot retention onto the set on The Road?

    sounds kinda rad actually

I was thinking a seat with the grundle cutout maybe. Or maybe some actual padded cycling pants instead of n00b knickers.

Yeah.. you definitely need some shorts with a chamois.

A new saddle might help. I've tried a lot and finally found a saddle I love.. now I need a second one for my track bike.

I currently run a Specialized Toupe 130. Fits me well. However, I am going to switch that out for a Ponza thats stipped down to the plastic. Most comfy thing I've ever sat my ass on.

But thats the whole thing. You have to find something that fits your sit bones just right, or its gonna suck. Padding (IMO) doesn't do that much at the track

I love my arione. But then again my Johnson is tiny.

Kevin you're into that raw plastic eh? I know Zak and Jorge were both really into Cinelli Unicanitors, and I've heard good enough things about stripped down Flites that I'll probably run one when my Flite finally gives out.

I didnt think I'd like it, but I tried my coaches stripped down Ponza, and it was just amazing. It raises a bit in the rear, and has a rough service so when you are out of the saddle and you go to sit down, the saddle just plants you right where need to be.

Thanks guys, I looked those saddles up. It's interesting that padding may do nothing but I suppose it's like snowboard boots, padding just gets packed out. I'll just keep trying. I have a B-17 on my cruiser that I really like, it's just kinda heavy and wouldn't look right at all on my track bike.

This may be a dumb question but do may men at the track find comfort in the saddles with the cutout in them? I've never even tried one but maybe it'd be worth a shot.

    I love specialized saddles.

I have had a specialized lithia for a year and a half or so and have always loved it, but its a commuter oriented saddle and wasnt working for me for long rides, plus i needed to leave it on my commuter bike.

Being a girl, like michael stated, I have slightly different anatomic needs. I need a cut out. Can't ride a saddle without one. I also need something at least 143 - can't do narrower and wider is usually too wide, which limits me to a few. Flites are actually 143 I think, or some are at least, but i've never tried one with a cut out so I'm not sure if i'd like it.

I am currently riding a specialized jett. It's their womans specific race saddle. It's fairly hard, but shaped right and I like it a lot. I wouldnt say it's perfect, I'm not sure there's any saddle that is going to feel great for things like time trial efforts (that's the onlyt ime this saddle really bothered me, when i was doing time trial practices).

I would say the main thing to pick a saddle based on is the width of your sit bones. You want your weight in the right area. Putting your saddle in the right place is also pretty key. I had a lot of people tell me to move my saddle forward when I first started going out to the track, because i had it stuck pretty far back on the rails on my 0 set back post. Eventually someone measured my femurs and informed me I have incredibly long femurs and need setback and my saddle pushed back a bit in order to fit my bike properly.

Anytime your weight is sitting right between your legs and not on your sit bones or rubbing anywhere it shouldn't, it's going to get really uncomfortable. But proper saddle adjustment and height are equally important - took me a long time to get it just right and even now isn't perfect (if i could have perfectly symmetrical legs it'd be a lot easier)
