sweet casati road bike. a good deal too.

    http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/bik/733033733.html

this guys still selling this? i came to check out this bike last summer. the frame is really nice, very good condition but not mint (if it was, he could basically ask any price he wants according to dean and that guy at veloce). the thing is the ofmega parts aren't exactly known for quality besides the cranks, it's a bike to buy and than try to replace with vintage campy bits. that rear derailleur is a low end shimano too. i rode it though, really nice classic steel feel and relatively easy to get up to speed even @ 21lb.

awesome...if it were my size i'd really want it.

and yeah, the cannondale track is actually for my GF. too small for me. she wanted a cannondale like mine and we were *this* close to buying a 90's r600 earlier this week only to get scooped by some dude who promptly relisted it on CL for $300 more. i got lucky and was the first to email this dude the other night about it. i feel sorta dorky with us having matching bikes but...

  4.

naw man, couples on matching bikes is fresh.
i hate it when i seen a guy on a nice bike and his GF is relegated to a shitty 10 speed/wrong size/janky conversion. It says to me the dude is kinda self centered, and I should steal his GF. jus kidden.

If my GF likes the GTB we'll be one step closer, we'll both have super stiff aluminum bikes with CF forks. nice score tho, if you ever wanna move that tubie wheelset/trade for wheelbuilding labor/something, talk to me.

superbe pro hubs are pretty much top o the heap as far as loose ball hubs. if they're 36 spoke good bet they're njs stamped, sometimes under the sticker. probably means nice spokes, the little W on the elbow/hub end means Wheelsmith, probably double butted 15-16-15 or straight 16.

you should hold on to 'em incase you get an itch to run alpenrose. I have also had good luck with adding a cross, if they are 3 cross, and swapping rims for an open sport or pro as when you add a cross the lengths get close.

I've been having a boner for old scool "aero" tubbie rims with hard anodizing lately. You know that would look meaaaan on the Concept too.

Delicious if your rims are hard anodized on that tubie wheelset I'm gonna be all over it! Let me know!

  8.

haha...one of the rims is. the rims don't match for whatever reason. the back is a hard ano'd black italian rim...an older company that used to make high end stuff, can't remember than ame. nissi or something? i'm going to take pictures this weekend. i love low-pro rims too and they look awesome on the bike, but i'm not going to put her on a tubular wheelset for riding around the street. that's something i might do but she's not a bikenerd like me (yet ;-))

oh yeah, the tires are those vittoria evo corsa pro whatevers that people pop boners over i think

no dude this sucks, that girl is never going to ride again, and here's why:

    1) she's always going to assoiate cycling with the ex. sounds like it was a serious relationship, that's not a bike you buy to ride with someone you're seeing casually (unless she's got $$$ to throw around, but if we assume she's selling the bike purely for monetary considerations, she probably doesn't).

    2) that bike is a good one, and someone her size is gonna have a hard time finding a bike that comfortable that fits right, at a better price. if she does decide to try it again, she's going to have to lay out some serious cash to replicate that same xperience. more likely, she gives it another shot on an inferior bike and has a bad experience because she'll compare it to the ride on the dolce

this post also makes me sad because I've been realizing that a lot of girls seem to get into cycling just because of a guy they spent time with. WHERE ARE ALL THE BOYS THAT GOT INTO BIKES BECAUSE OF THEIR GIRLFRIENDS?

I'd like to see an ad where a guy is selling his bike because his girlfriend was a track star and talked him into riding fixed. come on pdxfixed, make my dreams come true

  11.

th other day my GF was joking that she couldn't leave me. she said I'm cheaper than a full time mechanic and cook and new sex toy from spartacus. I laughed of course but then i thought of how sad it would be if we did break up for some reason and months later I'm buying some parts at citybikes as she's dropping off her bike to get it worked on...I kinda made me tear up a bit and hold her closer.

Alex and I were talking about this yesterday. He said basically that he's all about helping people with their bikes, but more into teaching people how to work on theirs than doing it for them. I was complaining that I didn't really learn shit from working in shops other than how to sell bikes because most people that work on bikes don't explain or teach. Where's the disconnect? How do mechanics even learn their trade? Are they all pretty much self-taught? It feels like the ones I've worked with are incapable of instructing below a certain level, so unless you've already picked up advanced basics on your own, they just take your bike and do it for you without really explaining. maybe i'm generalizing but I'm not sure what's up with that

how do you and amy work on bikes? has she picked up enough stuff from you that she wouldn't need to drop off her bike for work?

krysten, when folks helped you put your bike together, did you learn enough from it that you're confident enough to do a build on your own?

Haha, but really, who fucking cares? The girl isn't into riding bikes. She did it because her boyfriend did. She's not going to ride it, why the fuck keep it? Make a little money and make someone else happy. Why the hell not?

And on another note, I don't care why someone gets into bikes, just that they do. If your boyfriend/girlfriend or your fuck buddy or the kid with Down's Syndrome down the street got you into bikes, rad! Just go out and fucking ride. Or don't. Maybe it's not your thing. I don't judge.

Doug helped me put my bike together and yes, I can say that I would be able to do 90% of the job on my own. I just don't own 90% of the tools to do it. Hence the reason Doug helped me out. If I were to have to do it on my own, I'd do it in front of City Bikes or something and borrow their tools. The only thing I would need a little help with would be installing the headset and installing the BB. The rest is cake.

doesn't really work both ways when cycling is so male dominated. more girls in cycling is a great thing though, it's been way too much of a sausage fest forever...

but yeah, the girl selling off her bike just doesn't have any heart to keep riding. oh well, it's her loss: gasoline is only going to keep getting more expensive until we're on par with our counterparts in other industralized nations like japan and england who pay $10/gal...

Don't get me wrong, I'll all for more ladies in cycling. Stoked on it, in fact.
But there have definitely things that I have shown interest in due to a relationship. Not anything that cost me $1100, but either way, I get it. Sometimes it's hard for us to understand why people don't love riding bikes like we do...but everyone is different.
