While we're on the subject of wheels, I'm looking for a good cassette hub to build to some sorta strong rim for a fairly long (for me) tour I'll be doing this summer. Phil's are incredibly expensive, and I'm thinking about 105. Any suggestions? The front wheel is that one you sold me, marshall. The CXP33 to whatever the hell that hub is. runs well now that I trued it. Really well, actually. I'm also digging the blue anod.

so, rear cassette hub and rim for touring.

yeah man! you're a silly bean for selling me that wheel for 5 bucks. It's blue anodized, with some ugly ass, yet really smooth cannondale "coda expert" mountain hub.

edit: Upon further removal of black spray paint, it's actually a cxp23.

and I did! thanks again, man. it works great. if you have any sort of rims around I could build the road hub with (whichever one I decide on) I'd be glad to take it off your hands.

got a mercier...should i switched to threaded 1"? i can't seem to find shit for threadless in 1"(i know I can shim, but that's annoying.) I was planning on getting a new fork anyway...opinions?

I like threaded a lot personally, but it is a pain to deal with in a lot of ways. options for 1" threadless are very limited, shim is pretty much necessary and not a big deal. switching over to threaded doesnt really make a lot of sense honestly.

    Brooks proofhide?
Ive thrown that stuff on Brooks, WTB and Selle Italia leathers and it helps bring it back to life from being dried out.

weird question. i might get my hands on a campagnolo shamal titanium rim. it's a really nice rim, and i was planning to lace it into a front wheel. the problem is, it's a 12 hole rim! is it kosher to lace it into a higher hole count hub? and if so, should i lace it to a 24h i.e. a campy record hub? or a 36h? the original 12h hubs are extremely hard to find.

Pref lace it to a 12, but if you lace it to something else lace it to a 24.

i'm pretty sure anyone who buys a shamal front wheel laced to a 24 will just un-lace it and find the right hub...

so either get a 12h the first time, or insta-flip the rim by itself

Maybe talk to a small company like Phil or Paul and ask if they do custom drillings.

sounds good, thanks. it's not so much an "i need a campagnolo shamal" thing as it is a "if it's this cheap, i should probably buy it" thing. thanks for the info everyone.

well, Business Cycles says it's "at a modest surcharge" so that probably means it shouldnt be too much more. then again, phil woods are expensive to begin with. but it's a shamal, not like i am going to build it up to a crappy hub.

edit: it's an extra $40 according to the phil wood website.

Sell the rim to Kevin, let him get it laced legitly. I think getting the tension on such a low spoke count wheel will be hard w/o a lot of exp.

I think this will be my new wheelset

Front Forte Titan with a solid axle conversion

then like open pro (cd), veep, hplus f30, or some other obscure rim in the back laced to some classy formula hubs with some DT aerolite spokes.

UNLESS YOU'D LIKE TO DIFFER! It wont be until... Summer ish

    ayhsmb

btw whats a good rear hub? and where do I get axlez..

Fuck, might as well use my $20 Iro hub

should be able to get axles at your LBS or citybikes. failing that,

good rear hubs: campy, phil, dura-ace, superbe pro, suzue promax, gran compe (yes, they are better than formula), miche, formula

my question is why aerolite spokes???
