kevin (thor) is not connected to truvativ, he likes them because they're stiffer than practically any production track cranks (including dura ace)
aokp:you should probably just race your bike and see how you like it.
miguelaron:THOR4LIFE is the one to ask
I don't know about sponsorships but he has this red/white/blue stripey jersey that i think means he's sponsored by the country "USA"
Are you always so pissy or are you mad because it's Monday too? Jesh.
[EDIT]: If THOR4LIVE is the one to ask, why are you the one to answer?

Thanks, much appreciated.
Bamfs01:[EDIT]: If THOR4LIVE is the one to ask, why are you the one to answer?
because I have read this:
THOR4LIFE:Get the Truatives. They are better than the DA's. This season I'm taking the DA's off the Teschner and throwing in the omniums, then putting the DA's on a custom alum bike I'm getting later.
It's just a flat out stiffer crank, and WAY cheaper.
The only think with them is you HAVE to ditch the chainring bolts they come with. Get a set of the DA self-sinking bolts and you are ready to go.

This is helpful, thanks. I haven't gotten through everything here. The fact that I'm trying should curb your frustration.
Also, the water hat has the American flag on the sides. It's perfect :)
i liked the part where the brand new guy asked the frickin og veteran of this site if he was "always this pissy." i thought that was realy tactful on behalf of that new guy and a great way to make freidns and good connections
it's monday

Obviously joking around. Don't be so sensi
im not an og, i think marshall you've been here longer than i have
im just a homie

youre an OG imo michael <3
See? Me teasing made you profess your loveeee.
Just found this:

yay
Length depends on the rider and the BB height. Alpenrose is steep. Ive struck a pedal with 175s, but it wasnt on a track specific frame. I think the general consensus is between 165 and 170 for most. Although Im sure there are exceptions.
BTW do you know where Van Dessels are made?
Ok, I'm here already.
I'm not technically sponsored by anyone. I willingly switched to the Onmiums from the DAs. They are by far stiffer than any crank I've ever used. The only one I'd even consider using other than the Onmiums is the Sugino SG75s. But they do not have external bearings and they cost WAY more. I'll never go back to DA.
As for length, it half depends on how tall you are, and what you want to do on the track. Sprinters will pretty much never run anything larger than 170s, and thats if they are huge. I'm 5'11" and use 167.5s. If you are looking more to the longer stuff, you can get away with using 172.5s. But like Ben said, you can strike with 175s.
Seeing as how you are on a 57 (and assuming it fits you well,) I'd say 170s are fine. What a lot of folks forget is that leg speed=speed at the track. It doesn't apply very well here because almost all of you run fixed on the street, but you cant shift to a higher gear during a sprint.
Ben: Dont remember where Van Dessels are made, but I can find out if you would like. I'm pretty good friends with the guy who designed it (Jame Carney.)
PS: thanks for all the love <3
Like kevin said.. shorter cranks make it easier to spin better.. If you're riding a 57, 170-172.5 cranks are probably very appropriate. Though crank length is height-proportionate, most people run a size shorter cranks at the track.
I ride 172.5s on my road biek, but will have 167.5s on my track bike... when I get one.
I can't say I show any one who's boss at the track, but I did try to beat up Jerome once after I tried four loko for the first itme.
Also I think I am getting one of these for this n ext track season..

We just got a demo version @ the veloshop in a 52 and it seems decent enough..
I'm running 170s this season fwiw, that was the recommendation of HPChiro / Dean @ BC (a fit at HP Chiro will set you back $250). I'm 6'1" and ride a 59 tt Spend a season out at the track, see how you like it. if you are just starting out at the track 48x15/16 is about where you want to be. This is my 2nd season out at the track and there's a good chance I'll be running 48x16 the first half of this season to work on spin.

i run this town tonight.
i run new york.
Wow, this is useful stuff.
Grimm - I don't know where their frames are made, my guess would be possibly Taiwan? Sounds like another THOR question...
THOR - Thank you. I will take this advice and stay away from the hyped DA's. I'll be taking my 165's off my track bike and putting them on my crusier. I'm pumped, I can get the Omniums for 20% off wholesale. LOL that puts my cost at $104. And for good track cranks, why not? But before I do, I think I'll spend the money and get fitted.
toddistic - Veloshop's been really nice to me in the past. I'll stay loyal to them. Thanks for the advice on cogs.
Amy - that's a hawt lookin build, would you get the full build or the frameset only so you can customize the parts?
aokp - I'm suprised the town's not burned down.
whatever you do, just make sure you spend a LOT of money before ever racing. it's the key to having a successful first year.

I've already spent a LOT of money on bikes, does that mean I need to spend a LOT more? /sarcasm
I'm about 5' 11" and I've been running 165 SG75s with a good amount of success, but I'd rather be on 167.5s. I think the small decrease in torque can make it just a little hard to work up the speed to stay on the wall in the beginnings of a slow match sprint, but on the plus side of 165s I do feel it's easier to spin at higher RPMs in a smaller circle. I'd also like to knock my road cranks down to 172.5 from 175. 1cm is a bit of a jump when going from road to track.

I run 170s on the road only because finding 167.5s in a road crank is damn near impossible. I also workout on 170s, so you can train with the higher torque, and then transfer it into a slightly higher turnover on the bike. But honestly, I personally cant tell the diff between 2.5mm
track clean up is april 11th at 9. http://obra.org/posts/obra/show/63072
marshall:joe runs 51x15 holllaaa
this year i will or maybe even bigger. last year i was limited to 86 gear inches, which is a 51x16 or a 48x15.
I can tell the difference between the 175mm cranks i have on my road bike and the 170s i have on my track bike. You can get away with running 175s on alpenrose for time trials, cuz people do them on their road bikes, but for mass starts i would stay at or below 170.
FYI, anyone going out to the track should bring a broom. There is a SHIT LOAD of paint chips on the apron on 3-4. A lot of it is stuck to the track as well.
Bamfs01:toddistic - Veloshop's been really nice to me in the past. I'll stay loyal to them. Thanks for the advice on cogs.
I wasn't advocating that you not go to Veloshop, just sharing where I went. Veloshop gave me a sweet deal on some speedplays (thx to Amy).

Oh I understood that, I totally understand what you were sayin
Bamfs01:Amy - that's a hawt lookin build, would you get the full build or the frameset only so you can customize the parts?
Just going with frameset.. I have cranks and wheels already, so I'll just be needing bars and a stem once I get the frameset.
I'm selling my track drops and going with compact road bars this year.. i think it'll be a lot more comfortable for me.
aokp:
I watched that last night on Universal Sports... so fuckin epic!
he must have had omniums and the other guys had suginos or something. i think thats how this works.
@THOR DOES CHRIS HOY RIDE OMNIUMS Y?/N?
the 2nd place rider (nz?) did a crazy bike throw at the line. radness.

ugh, I got some work to do.
tree trunks. i've got some work to do too
aokp:he must have had balls the size of china and the other guys had one testicle like lance. i think thats how this works.
The entire UK team is riding SRMs currently. But usually they are on Suginos.
Cam:the 2nd place rider (nz?) did a crazy bike throw at the line. radness.
That was Awang from Malaysia. He is quite possibly my favorite current sprinter.
.

Oh jesus attitude
