Coming From Arizona, the only track that i really get time to ride would be San Diego. I know that the banks there are very shallow and wide and it's a pretty long track so my gearing i use for it is around 91-92ish. Alpenrose is quite a bit shorter and waaaay more steep so my question is what kind of gearing everyone likes to use out there (i'm well aware that different races = different ratios)? i know when i get out there and start to ride it i will know what i feel comfortable with i just want to get a general idea of everyone elses feel of the velodrome
i know that a lot of people i race with, and myself, run 48X15.
...this is coming from a cat5 though.
aokp:hay i got 4th overall last week.
this means i should be riding vitoria randonneur cross tires instead of tubulars full time now.thank you jorge for convincing me not to be a brat about tires and just race.
Yeah man, run what ever.
Though I will say, I dont care for some of vittorias rubber. I had a rubino pro slip out on me on the track, but I was right near traction speed. But I think my conti may have stuck it. I can be a bit of a snob on the interweb, and in talk, but id rather see people racing whatever the hell they have than wussing out and making excuses. As long as it aint gonna hurt anyone else, just roll with it.
so low to mid 80's? what's your 200m time?
It of course depends on your pedaling style, I rode 49x15 all last season with pretty good success for my first season. This year I have only raced one (very long) omnium and pushed 48x14 and I really liked it. But im also more of a masher in my pedaling style. I kind of made myself stick with the 15t last year to work on spinning.
Im curious what people like to run for different events.
What cat are you? Also, sprinter vs mass start makes a difference
Fuck yeah, aubrey got me the overall win for the beginner men. yay for teammates. I was racing on my brother wheelset off a london edition langser and it was sketch as FUCK. I had to tighten to back hub after every event and afterwords there'd be at least a half inch of play when i shook it around.
yay for teammates.
Amazing vid to get everyone pumped up for the AVC in 2 weeks. Gonna have several Olympians showing up. Hot and stupid fast racing.
that was sick.
cant wait for this.
THOR4LIFE:
Nice that they got the 2 different angles for the keirin crash. What's up with that crash at 3:19??? Parallel t-bone action.
I wonder if the stands will have more spectators this year with the thirst for crashes. I know Splinter always calls it NASCAR on bikes. The madisons last year were nothing but carnage, though. It'll be interesting to see what kind of crowd it draws this year, especially if the quarter midgets are running at the same time.
That was the crash of Travis Smith ( 12 time Canadian Champ, Olympian...) and Geo Ray of San Jose. Dont remember exactally what happened, but I think Geo slid out going into 3 and Travis just ran him over. Sucked for both guys cause Geo used a special type of pedal that he broke, and Trav was just comming back from a broken hip that he bunged up again.
Both guys will be back.
god damn disk wheels make the coolest ramps

Who is that fine piece about 3:15 in?
The yearly talk of a new velodrome is back. This time they want to put in the coliseum. Im hopeful.

so is the 'medalling' awarded to the overall weekend or each event?
i'm not in the mood to spend $40 this weekend.
each winner gets a medal
theres also an overall winner in each category.

sweet. i'll either do the "separate competition" (omnium i'm assuming) on saturday or the points race on sunday.
leaning towards saturday.
Saturday is sprint rounds. They'll break it down by category rather than 200 time. I guess you could call it an omnium if you get stuck in a 4-up repechage.
Keirins are 3 and above only.
Separate competition for:
Cat 4 Women, Senior Women, Cat 4/5 Men, Senior Men
OH, i see what that means now.
Not to be confused, everyone will be doing a flying 200, you just wont be racing anyone out of your cat. Just so they/ you can say "im the fastest cat 4"
Cat 3 here I come...
God I cant wait for Saturday. Have some pretty large goals for the 200.
Sub-12?
stumptown:Cat 3 here I come...
you get catted up?
you better be hoping there's enough cat 3s on sunday to get out of that 150 lap sr mens points race :-)
Shit, I'm almost looking forward to 150 laps. I dunno if I've ever ridden that many around the track consequetively in one sitting without getting off the bike... 25 miles.
im looking forward to tonights 1k TT. See everyone there! :)
todd when you ridin out?

I know i was talking to Luciano about it,it prob won't happen, again. Him and i were both thinking, that if there was some sorta gambling involved it would be a hellava lot more lucrative for the investers. That's if state and local gov. would let it happen. Also it would be cool if it doesn't turn into the L.A. debacle.
Amy:todd when you ridin out?
the #1 bus
stumptown:Sub-12?
Heh, you could say that. I'm eying somewhere around 11.5 if the weather plays nice. Gonna at least be sub 11.8
so is the kilo tonight flying? and how many laps is it? (4 maybe?)
standing start
3 3/4ths lap
edit: i am not an expert. this is true as far as i know.
Yup, the only time trial that is flying is the 200. Everything else is from a standing start. The kilo starts a mite out of turn 2, and finishes 3 3/4 laps at the start/finish line. The most painfull race you can do.
I'll be there tonight either holding or running a lap board. Plus I'm letting a training partner use the iO/comete
Yo Kevin,
you need one of these to match your aero wheels:

dude I know. Thats the warp III. Almost bought one over my LAS, but its a little hard to wear the warp on the road :) The things get wicked hot. If you ever watch Hoy do a kilo, the 1st thing he does is take the thing off.
That being said, I will be using a Bell aero helmet tomorrow :D
I DONT LIKE KILOS.
congrats todd on the bronze :-)
good job amy on the silver. good job todd on the bronze. good job kevin on the gold. good job zak on the silver.
really sucks about the girl getting hurt in the keirin, hope it isn't anything too serious.

who got hurt? i left and didnt watch the keirins..
Anna Knoblock. Her and Hook got mixed up and she went down pretty good. We had to call an ambulance
:(
Hell of a day of racing though. Great prep for AVC
oh that sucks..
Randy Word won the OBRA championship skid competition yesterday. It was awesome.
Probably the most epic skid comp I've ever seen. I saw it go down 20 feet away and was thinking to myself the whole time, "fuck, I wish I had a video camera". And then his tubbie exploded.
he should have ended it with a trackstand, but EPIC is the word for his skid, it was SICK!
He even had no shortage of aero wheels on his person as the whole thing went down. Double Tri-Spokes IIRC. Dude put the entire Mashaframa crew to shame!
