Spiderman didn't have retractable webbing. And thanks for making me feel like a geek.

Oh, you're right. Damnit. Thanks for making me feel like an idiot. Haha.

Yeah. I'm digging the Milan Kundera play on words, by the way, Max. Don't know why I waited so long to say it.

Oh and I keep getting whispers from people thinking I'm a dude. I'm a chick. Just heads up.

  2.

Well, one of three of the most influential books in my life. I didn't think anyone would make the connection.

You're talking to a big Kundera fan here. Have you read Immortality? If not, get on it.

Immortality, Slowness, and the Book of Laughter and Forgetting.

But have you ever read any Umberto Eco?

    I have not. Should I?

  3.

Eco is a little different as far as what he writes. But he's some serious brain candy. He's like a bizzaro Noam Chompsky who is smarter, and not as angry.

#2 as in, my second favorite author? I'm really into philosophy so I like a ton of different Greek stuff. But I'm also really intro the new trend of stream-of-consciousness female memoir writers. Like Miranda July and Michelle Tea. Probably not your thing. I'm also a big fan of the classics. Oh and I James Joyce a lot.

  5.

    you said my favorite word.
And if you ever want to geek out on philosophy I have plenty to talk about. I'm borderline obsessed with it actually. Everything from Aristotle to bell hooks to Baudrillard. Actually I kind of gravitate towards postmodernism and virtue theory.

God I sound like an asshole.

    I haven't read any stream-of-consciousness memoirs.

Poetry at all? I'm in a band called "the cummings" thats a cover band of ee cummings.

tattooed on my calf. You, Max, are my jam.

haha, i like a leaf falls on lonliness. I'm more of a r-p-o-p-h-e-s-s-a-g-r man myself. the whole rebirth through rearranging yet still staying the same thing. I also like his more understated work like "who are you, little i" and so on.
His poetry a lot of times is this really beautiful form of postmodern philosophy.

You should have some public readings when your tattoo is done. Just of the tattoo. Actually you should consider getting his whole collection throughout your body.

Ahh, we need to hang out. I could totally pick your brain for hours. I know what you mean about being a form of postmodern philosophy. Completely.

Haha, I don't think I could handle getting his whole collection. The bike I'm building comes first as far as funds right now, then the tattoo. So it might be a little while.

sorry. Anyway, I went on a short ride with yetti_core today. y'know, to get waffles (the vegan sausage maple! Fuck! soooooooo good!). Anyhow, not only did we not receive any scowls or rude remarks, we even got a wave from one of the lycra roadies. cool.

  8.

I think N Portland has it a bit better.
SE is riddled with the "hip" riders (who I have no problem with) but I think they and the roadies hate each other. It makes it uncomfortable for me cause I'm not too hip and I don't like spandex.

I've been trying to be conscientious about how my face looks when I ride, having a mustache makes me look pretty angry especially when it's sunny out and I'm furrowing my brow so I try to show some teeth most of the time.

I mean, I even have my share of lycra. I got some shorts, some jerseys, some long tights. If I'm doing longer rides, I like it, its more comfortable, but I don't feel like I fit in with the crowd that has to be wearing $400 worth of bike clothing before they click in to their ti serotta. And yeah, we were riding along N willamette.

Everyone rides for a different reason. And it's funny to me how their are so many different types of "groups" within one group - cyclists. Anyway, it's lame when people don't like other people just because they're different or have separate interests.

Zac, you can just drop in with us if you want to. Max, you still down to go? I need to get this frame ordered ASAP. I'm tired of putting around on this 10 speed.

funny story: i was coming up 33rd to sandy, and a whole bunch of cars were just chilling at the light, so i passed down the middle and was trackstanding at the crosswalk when this guy stepped out of his car and started yelling about me having to wait in line like everyone else. is there an actual law about passing between cars, or was this guy just being a jerk off?

yungjeezy, you should tell your story about the silver corvette. its a classic.

  16.

ok silver corvette story. at mash2mash after being lost and trying to find yamhill i finally found it and was going down it, well yamhill goes left while some other street goes straight so i was trying to go left and this dude in a silver corvette or some nice car speeds right past me while im going left and almost clips me, so i yelled some obscenities at him and rode off. when i had finally made it back downtown i saw the same dude chilling at the stop light so i went up and kicked his car. then i rode off and hid in a parking garage cause the dude looked kind of big and i thought he might try to kill me or something. that was a long story

I think it's totally legal, but I'm not positive. Can't seem to find anything that mentions it in the bicycle law online.

  17.

I know in Oregon motorcycles can't lane split, although that's changing soon.

I'm unsure about bikes, although I do know that the presence of bike boxes would indicate that bikes get to be in front.

I know they can pass on the right, not sure about splitting lanes. though I do it all the time in front of cops and never had a confrontation.

Yeah, but you don't have to pass on the right if you're in moving traffic, you just get over via the lanes (e.g. if you're trying to get over to turn left). I would imagine anything that gets you to the front at an intersection (within reason, obviously) would be legal. It seems like the safest thing to do. And if you read the law, it's very clear that whatever a cyclist "perceives" as the safest course of action is usually recognized. As long as you can back that up.

I would have told the guy to fuck off, personally. Is one cyclist really slowing him down that much and fuck up his whole day?

  18.

If it's a one-way you can ride wherever the hell you want, I know this much as well.
