So I picked up some Major Taylor bars yesterday and they are pretty cool. (FYI they are $10 cheaper at city bikes than Bike Central)
They run really wide, especially with the flare out after the drops. They actually make me look small, they are some pretty big bars.
Now I was curious about the b123s. Anybody own them? Anybody try out both?
i think the nitto 125s are closer to the major taylors, with the smooth sweep from the top/step clamp area to the forward sweep, on the 123's that arc, that radius is tighter that the 125s. I have some 125aa, same thing just aluminum rather than steel.
max, big is cool, are they just too wide? i dunno about the soma's but the nitto come in 3 widths usually.
I'm tellin ya Max, come check out these french track drops, mavic maybe? there from a late 60's early 70's gitane track bike. They'd be tits on yer bike.
uh dunno I'm at 32nd and Glisan, where are you?
stumptown belmont it is. say 2:45? ish
max, kinda like when you think something and then go "oh shit, I acidentally said that out loud"
oops did it again
also thanks for telling me after the fact. funny guy
I have B123's 40cm wide. I used to have 42's but they were too wide for me and I am a big guy. I haven't tried the Major Taylor's but they look like they would work better if run with the stem a little higher. Major Taylor himself used an old-school drop stem with adjustable length and ran the bar clamp upside down to get more rise.
I've heard bad stuff about major taylor bars
if you've got long arms b123s would be better for you than b125s. as far as i know the main difference is the depth of the drop, maybe reach too, but definitely drop (123s being deeper)
123s have a longer and deeper drop. those are the only diffs when compared to the 125s.
i have the 125's, wish I had 123's, and a longer top tube.
