Im the same way. I love mashing up some short steep stuff.
But getting your heart and lungs in shape with some good miles will help you a lot, youll feel like you have more energy and suddenly stuff like 70+mi rides sound doable. And the real benefit is that youll be able to process lactic acid faster, so you can mash a hill then recover quicker for the next.
I have that rubber to road book, I can let you borrow it. It has the rides broken up by length.
cool. whatchu doin after work?
Chillin like a villian.
You wanna get together? Im on the shark and may try to get some miles in with Sean/Jerome pending on what their up to and the weather.
Will we die if we try to do council crest in the dark next wednesday night?
(Shoulda kept that Lemond, Doug..)
The pavement is rough up there and I doubt its well lit.
I dont know it super well, so we could get lost.
But the traffic isnt bad the 2 or 3 times ive ridden it.

we'll see how it shakes out. Bennett just got an allez expert that I should be assembling right now, also barvettskis coming by 5:30 ish.
There's a birthday thing tonight too if anyone wants to get silly.

Even with lights, it's pretty dark in places. The street lights aren't so good up there and the neighboring areas. If you decide to go out, take it easy. They've repaved Fairmount, but there are always sticks and branches in the middle of the road, mixed with some loose gravel. Some of the bumps on the side streets will toss you off your bike if you're not watching for them.
Zoiks.
Maybe after daylight savings.
super FAIL.dropped my chain. now wearing my coffee instead of drinking it.
also looks like my BB coulda used some grease a month ago.
Tortuous ride today... we rode up Nectar Way (Doug you ever been there?), a nice 20% hill with a 10% middle followed by another 20% ending, about a 1/3 of a mile altogether. Did that 10 times.. well I did it 9 and tried to force myself not to puke, the two other guys got 10. Then off to the crit course to race a 4km "sprint race". Asceticism at it's finest in this shitty ass weather... but man, the Ol Dirty Bastard, hot shower and food is so good right now.
Capitol at Terwilliger is actually open now.
Dosch isnt a bad climb, one I used to do all the time (I live on 30th, which is the same street, just on the other side of beaverton hillsdale hwy.)
No road for me today, just a studio workout
yeah I know where nectar way is. I laid my honda down up there and slid into some blackberry bushes, left the bike and walked home. I wonder if it's still there.
didn't see any honda bikes up there haha. that hill would be killer to slide out on coming down.
just got home from riding with sean. that sucked. it basically poured and hailed the whole time.

council crest at night really isn't that bad, as long as you go up fairview and then up to skyline, its light enough that you won't go off the road if you're careful. and IMO, the view from council crest at night is a lot cooler.
i'd love to do council crest sometime with some people who know their way around up there.
me too.
so... wh at you're trying to say is i need some ceramic bearings, awesome?
Damn. That really makes me want to do some ceramic upgrades.
if ceramic bearings do that much than why do the tests show minimal improvement?
Where can I trade my suginos for omniums?
wow, that's hard to believe.
Road fucks. Who is coming to the banana belt? It was supposed to be nice now it looks shitty on Sunday.
Im gonna be pre-riding the couse tommrow morning. I'll probably be there on Sunday, but we'll see

+1
freespinning dont mean shit.

+2 with some real talk. looks tempting as hell but the reports say 1-3 watts per bearing... ain't shit until you've hit genetic peak.
not racing BB this weekend. rode 3 hours today though. slowly but surely, hills are getting easier.
Not sure if I'm racing tomorrow... Did a hard ride today and will be going to a party tonight... Also, they say there will be snow.
I think I'll be there.

i hope it snows tomorrow
Snowing at my place right now
Snowed in Eugene for a minute...
Race is cancelled.
Looks like fun
Edit: image hosting is borked. Imagine a road covered in snow and pretend it's Hagg Lake.
Im going to go for a ride later today if the weather doesnt turn to absolute shit. Probably not super long, but long enough for a good workout (20-40). Maybe finish it up by doing hill repeats up 46th between johnson creek and woodstock. but, I need to take it easy on my knee, its been giving me a little shit.
It's been hailing off and on pretty hard over here. Only bike I'll be riding is the work rig. That and the rollers
Well with out a race I took it the day easy. My knee was acting up anyways. I am going to do some hill repeats or some shit tomorrow. Then maybe a after work ride on tues and wed going riding with abe. If anyone wants to get in anything let me know.
Hey Ben, this book is great. I'm thinking I need a heart rate monitor. Is there something decent and cheap?
I need to get better at eating and drinking on the bike. I always forget.
A computer with speed and HRM will run you like 70-100 I think.
HRM is nice but not essential. I don't use one (yet). At this point get lots of base miles under your legs.
In other news, shitty sleep 3 nights in a row = no recovery and my legs feel like shit. Still lifted today though..
I have a cadence and speed computer, I just need one of them cheap HRM for joggers. I dont wanna end up just looking at numbers though.
Glad youre diggin the book. Im sure there are better ways to train using power meters, and keeping a very detailed regiment using heart rate and cadence. But for us average joes who happen to race bicycles, its pretty practical. I need to re-read it eventually.
I have an HRM on my computer, I picked it from Kevin last year. Its interesting to watch like my heart rate lag and then over do it and my heart doing 170+bpm. I need to dial in my training more after the BB, like start off at a certain BPM, and work my way into hitting specific zones for a certain amount of time. But as far as racing, imo BPM doesnt do much, other that tell you what you are already feeling (IE: OMG I feel like im gonna die, whats my BPM? OMG I AM gonna die!). :)
i think just building miles and upping my avg speed is good for now. did sauvies instead of tabor. now: shower, food, nap, booze.
white folks:i think just building miles and upping my avg speed is good for now. did sauvies instead of tabor. now: shower, food, nap,
booze.
Hey, booze are carbs
i wanna do sauvies next sunday maybe.
yung jeezy pdx:i wanna do sauvies next sunday maybe.
me too
well then
Yay hill repeats.
I was thinking with daylight savings council crest may be more doable this week than last. But I've got some other rides I want to try too.
BB this weekend looks dry, just uber cold. Cant wait
